Alyssa Milano Announces Sex Strike, Evan Rachel Wood Expresses Issue with Idea

Alyssa Milano is responding to Georgia’s new abortion laws by announcing a sex strike, but not everyone is thrilled with her idea.

The new “heartbeat bill” signed into law in Georgia earlier this week makes it illegal to have an abortion after a heartbeat is detected, which is usually about six weeks into a pregnancy. Oftentimes, many women don’t even know they’re pregnant yet at this point.

“Our reproductive rights are being erased. Until women have legal control over our own bodies we just cannot risk pregnancy,” Alyssa wrote on Twitter. “JOIN ME by not having sex until we get bodily autonomy back. I’m calling for a #SexStrike. Pass it on.”

Evan Rachel Wood responded to Alyssa‘s tweet to express her issues with the idea, though she fully supports anyone’s right to express themselves through the strike. Many others have tweeted similar thoughts as well.

“I worry this feeds into the religious belief that sex is for pro creation and never for pleasure. This is in the minds of a lot of people supporting abortions bans. No sex until marriage and babies. Meanwhile me and the other queer ladies let out a huge sigh of relief,” she wrote. “But also. ITS YOUR BODY. Strike. Dont strike. The choice is yours babes. ✌🏻 and I support how you choose to express yourself all the way.”

Evan will star in the movie with Jim Sturgess and Shinobu Terajima.

The movie tells the story of Hiroshima survivor Sadako Sasaki and author Eleanor Coerr, who wrote the bestselling children’s book Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes.

The film will tell “the true story of Sasaki, who was a 2-year-old in Hiroshima when the atomic bomb was dropped on the city in 1945. She was later diagnosed with leukemia caused by exposure to radiation from the blast. She drew strength from a Japanese legend that, if she folded 1,000 paper cranes, she would be granted a wish, which in her case was to live. Coerr, an aspiring journalist and young mother, learns of the girl and becomes determined to share her story with the world.”

Evan Rachel Wood Speaks Out About Self Harm & Past Abusive Relationship

Evan Rachel Wood is bravely speaking out about a past abusive relationship, which led to self-harm, to help raise awareness.

It started when the 31-year-old Westwood star tweeted out some photos from a past photo shoot with the caption, “The day of this photoshoot, I was so weakened by an abusive relationship. I was emaciated, severely depressed, and could barely stand. I fell into a pool of tears and was sent home for the day.”

She included the hashtag, “#IAmNotOk.”

She continued, “2 years into my abusive relationship I resorted to self harm. When my abuser would threaten or attack me, I cut my wrist as a way to disarm him. It only made the abuse stop temporarily. At that point I was desperate to stop the abuse and I was too terrified to leave. #IAmNotOk.”

Evan has been retweeting stories that she’s received back from those who have survived abuse.

Evan Rachel Wood touches down at LAX Airport!

The 31-year-old Westworld actress was spotted exiting the airport and making her way to her ride on Saturday (February 2) in Los Angeles.

She kept it comfy in a striped sweatshirt, which she paired with black pants, lace-up shoes, and circular glasses.

That same day, Evan took to Instagram to praise some “incredibly talented badass filmmakers and story tellers who happen to be female.”

“A film I made called #thirteen is the crowned jewel of my career, its the film of mine people talk about the most and the one that changed my life completely while setting a new tone in hollywood for films about young women to exist in,” she continued. “It was written and directed by a woman.”

“What we need is not more female directors,” she added. “We have those! What we need is more women given positions of power and Men that already have power, who are willing to see the vast potential these people and their films have, and green-light them, so we can see their dreams and visions realized. #4percentchallenge.”

Evan Rachel Wood Reveals She Attempted Suicide Before Checking into Psychiatric Hospital

Evan Rachel Wood is bravely opening up about her struggle with mental health when she was only 22-years-old.

The 31-year-old Westworld actress opened up about how years of abuse pushed her to seek help and check into a psychiatric hospital.

“Looking back, it was the worst, best thing that ever happened to me,” Evan said in an essay in Nylon. “It was morning; I felt as though I had been hit by a truck. Then with an almost hysterical acceptance, without thinking, I picked up the phone. It was one of those moments when you have a choice that goes beyond the initial choice you make by calling out for help: You can not die, or you can come back to life.”

Evan goes on to recount the phone call to her mother after she attempted to take her own life.

“‘Mom?… It’s me… I just tried to kill myself… I need to go to a hospital,’” Evan writes. “When I said I needed to go to a hospital, I did not mean I needed to go for any physical injuries I may or may not have had. I meant a hospital for my state of mind.”

Evan then explains how her years of struggling with abuse led her to that place.

“My mind at the time was filled with scars and shadows and most importantly, so much shame. I was struggling with PTSD and didn’t know it,” Evan continues. “My PTSD was caused by multiple rapes and a severely abusive relationship that went on for years.”

However, since living in the public eye, she couldn’t express her pain. So she changed her name in order to protect herself at the hospital.

“So when it came time to find a psychiatric hospital, my first concern — which most people won’t have to worry about — was figuring out a way to get help without anyone finding out, because if they did, any chance I had at rebuilding myself would be severely impaired by the cruelty of strangers,” Evan says. ““I felt some relief at choosing this new name. I couldn’t remember what it felt like to not be ‘Evan Rachel Wood’ — so much of my self-worth was wrapped in that.”

Evan
concluded: “Depression isn’t a weakness, it’s a sickness. Sometimes a deadly one. And sometimes all people need is to know that they are loved and that others are there for them.”
