The 2021 Oscars are this weekend and while there are frontrunners in plenty of categories, there’s one category in particular that is still very unpredictable.

The Best Actress award could go to any of the five nominees and there is no clear winner right now. Leading up to the Academy Awards, there are four big awards shows that serve as pre-cursors to help predict who will win the Oscar. These four awards are the Golden Globe, the Critics Choice Award, the SAG Award, and the BAFTA.

All four of those awards went to different women this year!

The five nominees are Nomadland‘s Frances McDormand, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom‘s Viola Davis, Promising Young Woman‘s Carey Mulligan, The United States vs. Billie Holliday‘s Andra Day, and Pieces of a Woman‘s Vanessa Kirby.

The upcoming movie Nomadland is one of the frontrunners for the Best Picture prize at this year’s Academy Awards and the film’s release date has been confirmed!

Movie fans will be able to watch the film from the comfort of their own homes on the same day it is released in traditional theaters around the country.

Nomadland will get an early release in IMAX theaters on January 29 and then it will be released in traditional theaters and drive-in locations on February 19.

Nomadland is one of the movies you need to keep on your radar for the 2021 awards season and a new trailer was just released!

Frances McDormand stars in the upcoming movie, which was directed by Chloe Zhao. You might not be familiar with Chloe yet, but she’s about to be a huge force in the entertainment industry following the release of Nomadland. She also directed the upcoming Marvel movie Eternals.

Here’s the movie’s official synopsis: “Following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, Fern (McDormand) packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad.”

The movie features real nomads Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells as Fern’s mentors and comrades in her exploration through the vast landscape of the American West.

GoldDerby‘s Oscars odds has Nomadland ranked as the number one pick for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay right now. Frances, who is already a two-time Oscar winner, is ranked second for Best Actress.

Nomadland will be released in theaters on February 19, 2021.

Here’s what the 63-year-old Nomadland actress had to say…

On playing Fern in Nomadland: “With Fern, it’s kind of like Shane, or John Wayne’s character in The Searchers. These men that don’t seem to have a past, only a present, and no future. They just arrive fully formed and they disappear. Except with Fern, because she’s female, she’s got a lot of stuff with her. She’s got a whole van full of memories. Women don’t necessarily come out of nowhere.”

On director Chloe Zhao and the similarities between her and her character:: “She [Zhao] incorporated a lot of my truth into Fern’s truth.”

On what it means to be on the cover of a fashion magazine at 63: “To still be culturally relevant as a 63-year-old female is so deeply, deeply gratifying. It’s something that I could have never expected, given what I was told. And I believe I had something to do with it. I’ve crafted some part of this moment in time. And I’m really f–king proud.”

Frances McDormand and Chloe Zhao are two names you’ll probably be hearing throughout the upcoming awards season!

The actress and director teamed up for the movie Nomadland and they were in attendance for the drive-in premiere held on Friday (September 11) at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

The movie is earning rave reviews and it also played at the Venice Film Festival, where it just won the festival’s Golden Lion Award.

Critics are saying that Frances is giving the performance of her career and she could be on track to win her third Academy Award. Chloe, who is directing the upcoming Marvel movie The Eternals, also seems to be a lock in the Best Director category.

With 23 reviews counted on Rotten Tomatoes, Nomadland currently has a perfect score of 100%.

The film hits theaters on July 24.

Immediately upon seeing the image, fans began writing things like, “Guess who’s naked in The French Dispatch?,” and “GOOD MORNING TIMOTHÉE WILL BE NAKED IN FRENCH DISPATCH.”
