'Stranger Things' Kids Open Up About Instant Fame & The Show's Success

Millie Bobby Brown, Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo chat together during an interview for Teen Vogue‘s upcoming issue.

The Stranger Things trio were also joined by their co-stars Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer and Finn Wolfhard. Here’s what the stars had to share with the mag:

Millie Bobby Brown on their instant fame after the show’s premiere: “The show is so well-received, and we’re just very grateful to the press and our fans [for staying] supportive and [being] there for us. We really couldn’t have done this without Netflix and the Duffers.”

Gaten Matarazzo on interpreting his character: “I definitely feel they wrote the characters around the people who played them. I feel like it was good that they did that because the kids playing them are able to play a role — actually, I feel like that’s why we’re getting so much better. People come up to me and say ‘You’re such a good actor.’ In my mind, I really wasn’t acting as much as I was being myself on camera.”

Caleb McLaughlin on not recognizing Millie after she shaved her head: “I was at lunch and I didn’t recognize her after. She was like, ‘Hey Gaten, Caleb, Noah…’ I was like ‘Hey,’ she was like ‘It’s me, Millie.’ She looked so different.”

Finn Wolfhard on leaning on each other during new experiences: “We all trust each other very much. We’re all part of a big family now; it’s like we’re brothers so we have to trust each other.”

Noah Schnapp on not immediately realizing the show’s success: “I went to camp and I came back, and I saw that people from across the world were watching the show, and everyone was interacting with us on social media. I was so happy and amazed by how far the show had gone.”

Stranger Things' Gaten Matarazzo Discusses His Rare Genetic Disorder: 'I Need a Lot of Surgery'

Gaten Matarazzo, the young actor who plays Dustin on the Netflix series Stranger Things, is opening up about his battle with the rare genetic disorder cleidocranial dysostosis.

“It’s a condition where you’re born without your collarbones,” the 14-year-old actor said during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show (via EW). “I don’t have any. It affects your facial growth, your skull growth, your teeth — that’s why I don’t have any [teeth], these are fake right here. I have teeth, but they’re all baby teeth. I need a lot of surgery.”

“I have a really mild case and a lot of people have it much worse than I do,” Gaten added. “I feel like putting it into the show has really raised awareness for it. And I’m lucky that mine is very mild, but now that it’s in my genes… it’s usually passed on by genes, it wasn’t for me, it just happened. So now that it’s in my genes, I have a 50 percent chance of passing it down in my genes and it could be much worse for them.”

Gaten says that the creators of Stranger Things decided to make his condition a part of the show and he is glad to showcase it on the series.

“I just wanna raise awareness for it and let people know it’s not something that they should be afraid of showing,” he said.
