Boy George Opens Up About George Michael's Last Years

Boy George is speaking about George Michael‘s final years after passing away at 53 on Christmas Day.

“I read stuff in the papers,” Boy George, 55, said. “But I never really knew really what – he really kept people out, he was quite private.”

“In the early days, we were competition to each other. Both called George, both made soul music. So in the early days, we were really in competition. Then sort of later on, I started to really appreciate him as a musician – you know, right around ‘Faith.’ I started to really appreciate his talent,” he added.

“It wasn’t really a feud,” Boy George said about their spat. “In the ’80s, everyone – Peter Burns, me, we all used to be really bitchy about each other. It’s like the thing that you did in the ’80s with those pop magazines. Now it’s the Housewives who do it!,” he continued. “But in the ’80s, you just said vile things about everyone.”

George Michael's Manager Says He Knew He Would Die Young

George Michael‘s passing may have come as a surprise to many, but his former manager said he knew it was going to happen.

Rob Kahane explained that George always thought he would die at a young age.

“He was obsessed with saying, ‘I know I’m going to die young.’ He’d say, ‘It’s OK. I’ve had a great life,’” Rob told Billboard.

He added that he spoke to George before his death, saying, “I called him, and he said, ‘I’m good.’ He sounded fine.”

Rob also got the chance to hear some of George‘s new music, saying that it was “totally pop, like something that would’ve been on ‘Faith.’ The songs weren’t depressing. That’s why I thought everything was OK with him.”

James Corden paid tribute to the late George Michael on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

“I feel like I’ve loved George Michael as long as I’ve loved music, in a way, and I know so many of his fans feel the same,” James said in his tribute. “I can remember so many specific times in my life where I might have felt on my own, and George‘s music would feel like, you would listen to a song and he would reach his hand out and tell you that you weren’t on your own and that these feelings were not particular to you.”

He also revealed that George inspired Carpool Karaoke after he was the first guest in the car with him.

“We had come up with this idea to have me and George Michael singing in a car,” James added. “It was the first time I’d ever sung in a car with anybody, and it’s become quite a big part of my life now, and he really inspired it.”
