The men of Team USA – LaShawn Merritt, 30, Gil Roberts, 27, Tony McQuay, 26, and Arman Hall, 22 – celebrate after winning gold in the men’s 4x400m relay on Saturday (August 20) at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics!
The guys finished with a time of 2:57.30. Jamaica earned silver with a time of 2:58.16, and Bahamas won bronze with a time of in 2:58.49.
“I ran with a great group of guys, they made my job easy,” LaShawn said (via USA Today). “Everyone goes out and does their job. I thought, ‘I have been running a lot but I’m going to give this anchor leg all I got.’ Every man did their job, and we are bringing this gold back to the U.S.”
“Before I got the baton, I knew I had some mileage on my legs, but I knew it was about the team and USA,” he added. “I got down the backstretch well and opened it up a little coming home, I just wanted to keep it comfortable.”
