'Gossip Girl' Producer Reveals Mystery Blogger's Identity Was Almost Completely Different!

WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS!

Gossip Girl almost ended completely differently!

Seven years after the hit series ended in 2012, writer and executive producer Joshua Safran revealed during Vulture Festival that the identity of the mystery blogger was almost completely different.

PHOTOS: Check out the latest pics of Penn Badgley

In the series finale, Penn Badgley, who played Dan Humphrey, was unveiled as the mystery blogger.

“Dan was not my intended Gossip Girl,” he admitted.

Instead, he wanted it to be Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively)’s own brother, Eric (Connor Paolo).

“We worked hard to kind of lay in tiny seeds about it being Eric, and then the NY Post wrote an article saying that Gossip Girl was Eric so we were like, ‘We gotta scratch that.’ Then…one of the writers realized that Nate had never sent a tip in to Gossip Girl, which is true at least through the end of season five. Nate never sent in a tip in through all of those episodes, which is when we’re like, ‘Oh, well then he’s Gossip Girl,’” he went on to explain.

“I like to joke that Dan was Gossip Girl because I had left the show by then. But, I understand why Dan was Gossip Girl. I just had my heart set on Nate.”

'Gossip Girl' Reboot Will Be More Diverse: 'The Leads Are Nonwhite'

The upcoming Gossip Girl reboot is set to more accurately reflect the diversity of New York City.

Writer and producer Joshua Safran just revealed that the cast of the new HBO Max show will include more representation.

“There was not a lot of representation the first time around on the show. Even when I went to private school in New York in the ‘90s, the school didn’t necessarily reflect what was on Gossip Girl. So, this time around the leads are nonwhite,” Joshua said during Vulture Festival.

He added that “there’s a lot of queer content on this show.”

“It is very much dealing with the way the world looks now, where wealth and privilege come from, and how you handle that. The thing I can’t say is there is a twist, and that all relates to the twist,” Joshua teased.

Kristen Bell to Reprise Role for 'Gossip Girl' Reboot!

The Gossip Girl reboot has a familiar face set to return: Kristen Bell!

If you don’t know, Gossip Girl is returning in a reboot form on the upcoming streaming service HBO Max.

Kristen played the narrator in the original series, and will be back for the new show in a deal that was in the making for months, THR reports.

Kristen Bell has always been and will always be the voice of Gossip Girl,” the producers said in a statement.

The new show will take place 8 years after the original series and feature a whole new cast of characters – minus Kristen of course. It’s unclear if any of the original stars like Blake Lively and Leighton Meester will cameo.
