Alfonso Cuaron WINS Best Director for 'Gravity' at Oscars 2014!

Alfonso Cuaron continues his winning streak with another award while attending the 2014 Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday (March 2) in Hollywood.

The 52-year-old filmmaker won the award for Best Director – his SECOND win of the night and the last of countless awards he has won throughout this season.

Alfonso also picked up the award for Best Film Editing for his work on the movie, which is also nominated for Best Picture.

'Gravity' Stays Strong, Tops Weekend Box Office for 3rd Week!

Gravity, the huge hit film starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, has topped the weekend box office for the third weekend in a row with $31 million brought in, for a total of $170.6 million earned domestically!

Rounding out the second place spot was Tom HanksCaptain Phillips, which brought in $17.3 million at the box office this weekend.

Carrie, starring Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore, opened this weekend and earned $17 million, under performing studio predictions.

Rounding out the top five were Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 with $10.1 million, and Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone‘s Escape Plan with $9.8 million.

Benedict Cumberbatch‘s The Fifth Estate disappointed in its limited release with $1.7 million earned from 1,769 locations. Brad Pitt‘s 12 Years a Slave brought in $960,000, impressing at the box office.

'Gravity' Stays Strong & Tops Second Weekend Box Office

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney‘s film Gravity comes in No. 1 at the weekend box office for the second week in a row!

According to THR, the space flick brought in an additional $44.3 million this weekend, racing past the $100 million mark domestically to end the weekend with total earnings of $123.4 million!

Coming in second place was Tom Hanks‘ new pirate pic Captain Phillips, which did better than expected with a $26 million opening.

Third place went to the animated film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, grossing $14.2 million and pushing its total to $78 million.

Machete Kills, starring Danny Trejo, Mel Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, and Alexa Vega, debuted in fourth place to roughly $3.8 million – the worst wide opening of writer-director Robert Rodriguez‘s career.

Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck‘s Runner Runner tied for fifth place with Hugh Jackman‘s Prisoners, each earning $3.7 million.

Sandra Bullock: 'Gravity' BFI Film Festival Premiere!

Sandra Bullock is gorgeous on the red carpet at the premiere of her film Gravity during the 2013 BFI London Film Festival held at the Odeon Leicester Square on Thursday (October 10) in London, England.

The 49-year-old actress was joined at the event by her Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron, who brought along a guest to the event.

The evening before, Sandra arrived for a BAFTA screening and Q&A for her film.

Gravity is currently playing in theaters in the USA, and will hit theaters in the UK on November 8 – be sure to check it out!

FYI: Sandra is wearing a Stella McCartney dress, Charlotte Olympia shoes and Martin Katz jewels.

'Gravity' Breaks Box Office Records, Biggest October Opening!

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney‘s hot new movie Gravity has broken box office records with the biggest October opening weekend of all time!

The new film brought in $55.6 million over the weekend, boosted by its huge business in 3D theaters and great buzz from the very positive reviews. The previous biggest opening for October was Paranormal Activity 3 with $52.6 million.

Coming in second place over the weekend was the animated film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 with $21.5 million, according to Deadline.

Third place went to Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck‘s new flick Runner Runner with a disappointing $7.9 million for the weekend. The film reportedly only cost $30 million to make though, so it could still recoup its investment.

Rounding out the top five were Hugh Jackman‘s Prisoners with $5.7 million and Chris Hemsworth‘s Rush with $4.5 million.
