Taylor Swift and Alicia Keys pose for their features in Elle magazine‘s May 2013 issue celebrating Women in Music.

The ladies were joined in the issue by Miranda Lambert, Grimes, and Haim. Here is what they had to share with the mag:

Taylor on what inspires her songs: “All these emotions, everything that’s said and all your experience, that’s what inspires the first flicker of a song. It’s hard being a human being.”

Alicia on her Girl On Fire album: “There’s not one thing about Girl on Fire that’s like any of my others. I’m in a totally new state of mind…This album is like saying I am who I am, not who you want me to be.”

Miranda on staying true to herself: “My message is to be your own person, always- whether you’re a stay-at-home mom or a superstar…We all bring something different.”

Azealia on her biggest moment of 2012: “Releasing my mixtape, Fantasea. I had struggled in the past to create full bodies of work, and that was my first official one, so I’m proud of that!”

Cassie on how she’d like the world to change next year: “Road rage has got to stop! I’m working on my personal road rage one day at a time.”
