HBO Casts Lead Actor for 'Game of Thrones' Prequel Series: Paddy Considine!

Paddy Considine has been cast in the lead role for the upcoming HBO series House of the Dragon, a prequel to the smash hit series Game of Thrones!

The 47-year-old actor most recently starred in HBO’s series The Outsider and he’s currently appearing in the new HBO series The Third Day. You might also know him from roles in movies like The Bourne Ultimatum and Cinderella Man, as well as the series Peaky Blinders.

Variety reports that Paddy will play “King Viserys I, who chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy. But good men do not necessarily make for great kings.”

House of the Dragon will tell the story of House Targaryen and it takes place a few hundred years before the events in Game of Thrones. HBO has ordered a 10-episode first season, which is expected to debut in 2022.

'Game of Thrones' Prequel 'House of the Dragon' Begins Casting

Great news for Game of Thrones fans! The new prequel show, House of the Dragon, has officially started casting.

According to EW, “The project is based on George R.R. Martin‘s Fire & Blood, a history of House Targaryen set 300 years before the events in GoT.” Not much is known about the series, however, the site reports, that the “Dance of Dragons – the Targaryen Civil War that occasionally referenced in GoT that ripped apart Westeros – will be tackled at some point in the series.”

The debut date for the project was revealed earlier this year.

The series finale of Game of Thrones has been controversial with fans who were upset how it ended.

If you don’t know, an alternate ending was actually filmed for Game of Thrones. Fans actually demanded a reshoot from HBO but were not successful in their efforts.

'Game of Thrones' Prequel Series 'House of the Dragon' Gets a Debut Date!

The Game of Thrones prequel series has an early projected premiere date!

The show, called House of the Dragon, is set for a 2022 debut, according to HBO exec Casey Bloys in an interview with Deadline during TCA on Wednesday (January 15).

“My guess is sometime in 2022,” he said without getting into specifics.

“They are starting writing,” he added.

House of the Dragon is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen, rich in the dragonlord ancestors of Daenerys.

“Obviously it’s a big, complicated show,” he went on to say, adding that there is no casting news.

“For me for right now, I think getting House of the Dragon on the air will be the number one priority. There are no other blinking green lights or anything like that. Sometime down the road who knows, but there are no immediate plans. We are all focusing on House of the Dragon,” he said of other potential GoT spin-off series in the works.
