The annual awards show honors the “worst” movies of the year and they’re usually handed out the day before the Oscars, which are being held on Sunday.

The Polish movie 365 Days, which became a Netflix sensation last year, and the Robert Downey Jr. movie Dolittle led the pack with six nominations each.

Sia‘s critically panned movie Music topped the winners list this year with three wins.

Glenn Close received a nomination for Worst Supporting Actress and she also received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for the same role in Hillbilly Elegy. She didn’t win the award though.

Kate Hudson Responds to Backlash to Her Movie 'Music,' Directed By Sia

Kate Hudson is speaking out in response to the backlash her movie Music, directed by Sia, has received for its portrayal of autism.

The 41-year-old actress, who received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in the film, discussed the controversy while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Friday (February 19).

“I think when people see the film, they will see the amount of love and sensitivity that was put into it,” Kate said. “It is an important conversation to have and it’s not just about this movie, but as a whole, about representation. For me, when I hear that there’s anybody that feels left out I feel terrible.”

There has been controversy over Maddie Ziegler being cast as a nonverbal autistic woman as she’s a neurotypical actress.

“Nobody has really asked me that,” Kate said about the controversy. “I’ve only been asked to sort of comment in a quote, and it’s not a soundbite conversation. I think it’s an ongoing, important dialogue to be had about neurotypical actors playing neurodivergent characters.”

“The spectrum is so wide and should be approached with far more conversation and understanding of how can we be more representative, what are the best ways to do that,” Kate added. “We want to tell the best stories we can. There is no one who wants to upset anybody. When people feel upset about anything, it’s our job to listen and encourage more conversation with other people who want to tell these stories.”

A viral Twitter thread about the movie explained why its so offensive to the autistic community.

Viral Twitter Thread About Sia's Movie 'Music' Explains How the Film Is Offensive

Sia‘s new movie Music, which is available to rent on demand, has caused a lot of controversy in recent weeks and the film is still trending.

Last week, a Twitter thread was written by an account called @Autisticats and they called out the movie for the offensive way autistic people were portrayed.

One week after the thread went live, it has been retweeted over 31,000 times, quote tweeted over 6,000 times, and liked by more than 96,000 people.

“I’m watching Sia’s movie, in order to write a detailed & chronological review (so that nobody else watches it out of curiosity). But for now, I just want the public to see a few things that speak for themselves, starting with this image,” the account said along with an image of star Maddie Ziegler‘s facial expression in one scene.

The film received two nominations for the 2021 Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical and one for Kate Hudson‘s performance.

Amid the backlash that she received for the movie, Sia deleted her Twitter account and released an apology statement.
