'Mockingjay Part 1' Dominates Thanksgiving Weekend Box Office

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 has topped this holiday weekend box office with a whopping $82.7 million gross!

According to THR, the third film of the franchise, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson, scored the third-best gross of all time for the five-day Thanksgiving weekend.

Coming in second place was Penguins of Madagascar, starring the voices of John Malkovich and Benedict Cumberbatch, which debuted with $36 million.

Taking the No. 3 spot was the animated flick Big Hero 6, earning an additional $26 million in its fourth weekend.

Rounding out the top five were Horrible Bosses 2, starring Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston, and the star-studded Interstellar, bringing in $23 million and $22 million, respectively for the five-day weekend.

Meanwhile, The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, opened in New York and Los Angeles with an impressive $482,000 for a location average of $120,500.

Jennifer Lawrence's 'Hunger Games: Mockingjay' Song is Top 40 Hit in UK

Jennifer Lawrence‘s song “The Hanging Tree” in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is now in the top 40 on the UK charts, according to BBC!

The 24-year-old actress’ song, which was co-written by composer James Newton and the folk rock band The Lumineers, reached number 29 on the charts.

Jennifer sang the song as her character Katniss in a scene for the film, which is out in theaters now!

'Hunger Games: Mockingjay' Dominates Weekend Box Office But Hits Franchise Low Numbers

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 nabbed the biggest opening box office of the year with a record $123 million!

The film – which stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, Natalie Dormer, Sam Claflin, and more, hit a franchise low, however. Catching Fire opened to $158 million on the same weekend last year, and The Hunger Games opened with $152.5 in March of 2012, THR reports. The film still brought in a lot of money, making $152 million total including international markets!

Big Hero 6 came in at number 2 at the box office with $20.1 million brought in.

Interstellar, in its third week at the box office, took in $15 million. Rounding out the top five were Dumb and Dumber To, which brought in $13.8 million and Gone Girl, which has made a total of $156 million domestically.

Elizabeth Banks, Natalie Dormer, Julianne Moore, Donald Sutherland, Sam Claflin, and director Francis Lawrence all participated in the video and told some funny and touching stories from filming.

“I think seeing her yesterday for the first time in a while, one of the first things she said was ‘Have you farted?’ I was like ‘What? No!’ Who greets someone who you haven’t seen for months, with that!?” Sam said. “That girl is pure, honest, raw amazingness.”

Jennifer Lawrence Got Pranked Big Time on the 'Mockingjay' Set!

Jennifer Lawrence switches up her look to a chic black dress for the after party for the premiere of her film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 on Monday (November 17) in Los Angeles.

The 24-year-old actress’ co-stars Natalie Dormer and Elizabeth Banks also changed up their fashion. Check out Jennifer‘s gorgeous premiere dress in case you missed it last night!

On set, Jennifer got pranked big time by Jeffrey Wright, who plays Beetee. He gave her a Tiffany’s jewelry box, but instead of putting jewels inside, he filled it with live crickets!

“It was the most awful combination of feelings in the world,” Jennifer told ET. “It was like, Tiffany’s!? Jeffrey! You didn’t have to do that! And then I opened it… it was awful. And they were in my trailer for months, I couldn’t get them out.”

Also pictured inside: Patina Miller, who plays Commander Paylor, at the premiere earlier in the evening.
