Fyre Festival Founders Are Being Sued for $100 Million

The founders of the ill-fated Fyre Festival, Ja Rule and Billy McFarland, are being sued for a whopping $100 million in a potential class-action lawsuit from attendees of the failed event.

Ticketholders paid anywhere from $1,000 to $125,000 to attend the festival in the Bahamas, but when they arrived they found that the luxury accommodations they were promised looked more like a refugee camp. Headliners quickly started dropping out and the entire festival was canceled.

Celebrity lawyer Mark Geragos has filed a lawsuit on behalf of festival attendee Daniel Jung, who is asking for $5 million in damages “for alleged fraud, breach of contract, breach of covenant of good faith and negligent misrepresentation,” according to Variety.

It is anticipated that 150 plaintiffs will join the class and a minimum of $100 million is being sought.

Make sure to read the explanation of what went wrong with the festival.

Ja Rule is breaking his silence on the failed Fyre Festival, which was cancelled after reports of terrible conditions, poor housing, and more.

“I’m heartbroken … it was NOT A SCAM as everyone is reporting. I don’t know how everything went so left but I’m working to make it right by making sure everyone is refunded,” the 41-year-old rapper said in a statement on his Twitter.

Ja Rule also added that he’s working on “getting everyone [off] the island SAFE.”

Ja Rule's Fyre Festival Cancelled After Reports of Poor Conditions Emerge

Ja Rule‘s Fyre Festival, a three-day, two weekend event in the Exumas, Bahamas, has been cancelled after attendees, who paid thousands to attend, were met with poor conditions.

Attendees reportedly spent between one thousand and twelve thousand dollars to attend. Living conditions were reportedly tents used in disaster relief efforts. Food consisted of bread and cheese sandwiches. There are also reports of a lack of staffing. You can see photos of the conditions over at TMZ.

“We received a email this morning saying they are ‘arranging’ flights asap for guests,” festival attendee Tico Lorenzo told Billboard. “We didn’t want to wait any longer so we booked our [flight]. There were no pillows and most of people’s bed sheets were wet so nobody got that much sleep.”

“The event organizers assured us that all measures were taken to ensure a safe and successful event but clearly they did not have the capacity to execute an event of this scale,” the Bahamian Ministry of Tourism said. “A team of Ministry of Tourism representatives is on the island to assist with the organization of a safe return of all Fyre Festival visitors. It is our hope that the Fyre Festival visitors would consider returning to the Islands Of The Bahamas in the future to truly experience all of our beauty.”

Ashanti & Ja Rule Reunite On 'Helpless' From Broadway's 'Hamilton' - Listen Now!

It’s Murder Inc! Ashanti and Ja Rule reunite on “Helpless,” a brand new collaboration for Hamilton: The Mixtape!

The 40-year-old rapper and Ashanti, 36, who have collaborated on a string of top five hits in the early 2000s, play the role of Alexander Hamilton and his wife Eliza on the reinterpretation from the Broadway musical.

Earlier this month, Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda made an appearance on Conan and expressed that the Murder Inc. duo were actually the muses for “Helpless.”

“When I was writing that song, I was picturing it as Ashanti and Ja Rule,” Lin revealed. “I was like, ‘Eliza’s Ashanti. Hamilton’s Ja Rule. Two verses, two choruses. A little Ja Rule. And then they’re married.’”
