'The Interview' Selling Out at Theaters Showing the Film!

The Interview showings are already selling out one day after news broke that theaters would be screening the film with Sony’s permission.

“We’re seeing filmgoers come out in droves,” Christian Parkes, chief branding officer for the Alamo Drafthouse theater chain said (via Variety). “I can’t imagine what the people at Sony have been through. But this is definitely the kind of publicity that you can’t buy. People were going to see the movie anyway but now they are telling us that they believe it’s their patriotic duty.”

In case you missed it, here’s a list of theaters where you can catch the movie this weekend. You can also watch online in the comfort of your own home, however, the film’s star Seth Rogen tweeted, “I need to say that a comedy is best viewed in a theater full of people, so if you can, I’d watch it like that. Or call some friends over.”

Where is 'The Interview' Available Online? Here's Where You Can Stream Without Going to Theaters!

Though The Interview will be playing in select theaters on Christmas, it will be available online one day early (December 24)!

The James Franco and Seth Rogen film will be available to rent at 10:00 a.m. PST in HD on Google Play, YouTube Movies, Microsoft’s Xbox Video, and the Seetheinterview.com for the price of $5.99. Not only can you rent, you can also buy the movie for $14.99!

“It has always been Sony’s intention to have a national platform on which to release this film,” Chairman and CEO of Sony Entertainment Michael Lynton shared in a statement. “With that in mind, we reached out to Google, Microsoft and other partners last Wednesday, December 17th, when it became clear our initial release plans were not possible. We are pleased we can now join with our partners to offer the film nation-wide today.”

He added, “We never stopped pursuing as wide a release as possible for The Interview. It was essential for our studio to release this movie, especially given the assault upon our business and our employees by those who wanted to stop free speech. We chose the path of digital distribution first so as to reach as many people as possible on opening day, and we continue to seek other partners and platforms to further expand the release.”

Netflix is reportedly in talks to stream the film. Stay tuned for more details.

In the latest update from the major Sony hack designed to shut down The Interview, Sony is now allowing several theaters to screen the movie on Christmas day.

Two independent movie theaters, the Plaza Atlanta theater and Alamo Drafthouse, announced the news on Twitter after many major movie houses said last week that they would not be showing the controversial film after terror threats came through.

THR is also reporting that Sony will offer the film as a VOD option so it can be available to the greater public.

'The Interview' Facebook & Twitter Accounts Deleted After Movie Release Cancelled

Two social media accounts for The Interview have just been deleted after the film’s release was cancelled by Sony earlier this week.

It is unclear if Sony had made the decision to remove the Facebook and Twitter accounts or if hackers had disabled them themselves.

Before the Facebook account was deleted, the movie had more than 366,000 followers, while the film’s Twitter page (@TheInterview) had 35,100 followers. Currently, the Twitter account says, “@TheInterview hasn’t tweeted yet,” which indicates that the account is inactive.
