Idina Menzel performs alongside her If/Then co-star James Snyder during an appearance on The Today Show on Thursday morning (April 3) in New York City.
The 42-year-old entertainer promoted her new Broadway show and also talked about the moment at the Oscars when John Travolta messed up her name, but said she doesn’t want to talk about it much more in the future.
“I heard it. I did. I don’t want to keep saying it because I don’t want him to feel worse or anything because he sent lots of apologies,” Idina said. “It threw me for like eight seconds. I had done this whole preparation to make sure that I really was in my body and didn’t get too nervous.”
“So I was picturing my [4-year-old] son Walker, I thought, ‘Let me just sing it to him’ like we do in the bathtub … and [Travolta] said my name like that and I was like, ‘Did that just happen?’” Idina added. “Then the orchestra started and then for eight seconds, I said, ‘Get your s— together! And like, stop worrying about your name and sing this song!’ … So it took me about eight seconds to get over myself.”
FYI: Idina is wearing an alice + olivia blazer, Monika Knutsson earrings, and a lia sophia ring on her right hand.
