Gina Rodriguez Had The CW Donate 'Jane the Virgin' Emmy Campaign Money to a Great Cause

Emmy voters won’t be mingling with Gina Rodriguez at For Your Consideration events this summer as she has asked The CW to donate the money the network set aside for a Jane the Virgin campaign.

Networks typically spend hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not more, on campaigns to make sure voters are considering their shows.

Gina asked The CW to donate the allotted funds for Jane the Virgin to a college scholarship for an undocumented high school student heading to Princeton University in the fall.

“Our show has always jumped at any opportunity to help me do something for the Latinx community,” Gina told THR. “So I asked my showrunner, Jennie [Snyder Urman], if we could do something different with the money this year.”

“It’s taboo to talk about the money being spent, but it’s the reality,” she added. “I think sharing this might inspire other people to do something similar. You can desire recognition and, at the same time, decide to not play in the confines of the game as it’s set up.”

Gina Rodriguez Hints That 'Jane the Virgin' Will End After Season 5

Looks like we better start getting ready to say goodbye to Jane the Virgin. The show’s star Gina Rodriguez has hinted that the show will be ending after the upcoming fifth season.

Gina spoke out during the Women to Watch panel from Create & Cultivate and Fossil this weekend in Texas, where she opened up about getting to direct a season four episode.

“When it came to directing Jane, as the star of the show — as a woman, as Latina, I was like, ‘I need to come so correct that I cannot be denied,’” Gina said (via Variety).

Gina also added that she plans to “do more [directing] next year — in our final season.”

The CW has not yet confirmed if the fifth season is the end.
