Neil Patrick Harris Pays Tribute to Fiance David Burtka in Drama Desk Awards Acceptance Speech

Neil Patrick Harris and his fiance David Burtka hit the red carpet at the 2014 Tony Honors Cocktail Party held at the Paramount Hotel on Monday evening (June 2) in New York City.

The 40-year-old actor won the Drama Desk Award the night before for Best Actor in a Musical for his work in Hedwig and the Angry Inch and he gave a touching tribute to his man during his acceptance speech.

“Lastly, I’d like to thank David Burtka, my fiance. We’ve been together for over ten years and when we first met I was doing a show, Cabaret, and he was Tulsa in Gypsy. We were both doing shows at the same time and my path has led us mostly to Los Angeles and it has sort of uprooted him from what he had been doing,” NPH said. “So, thank you so much for your love and for your patience and your sacrifice in all that you do. And I can’t wait for the opportunity soon when these roles get to be reversed and I get to cheer you on up here doing what you do so well.”

Smith, Bullets Over Broadway‘s Nick Cordero, and Beautiful‘s Jarrod Spector.

Carole King Surprises Cast at 'Beautiful' on Broadway, Sings at Curtain Call!

Carole King surprised the cast and the audience at a performance of the musical Beautiful on Thursday evening (April 3) at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in New York City.

The new show is based on the legendary singer-songwriter’s life and she had not seen the show up until that night. She previously had attended a workshop performance, but left midway into the reading.

“She came to a reading and lasted halfway through,” her daughter Sherry told Playbill. “She said ‘I have to go.’ I said, ‘You’re just going? What do I tell all these people?’ She said, ‘Tell them it’s great. I can tell it’s great. But I can’t watch my life played out before me.’”

At the performance this week, Carole did not let the cast know she was coming and surprised them by walking on stage during the curtain call at the end of the show. She even joined the cast and audience in a performance of her song “You’ve Got a Friend”!
