The film is getting a ton of awards buzz and will likely be a major contender at the Oscars next year. Ruth and Joel are both frontrunners to receive nominations for their performances in the film, in theaters on November 4.

The stars of the movie stepped out the night before in the Big Apple for the film’s premiere.

Also in attendance at the lunch were The Color Purple‘s Cynthia Erivo and Hearst magazine’s Joanna Coles.

Ruth Negga is gorgeous in white while striking a pose on the red carpet at the premiere of her latest film Loving held at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater on Thursday (October 20) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 34-year-old actress was joined at the event by her co-star Joel Edgerton, producer Colin Firth, director Jeff Nichols, and designer Tom Ford.

“I think what I found quite hard was the prison scenes when she’s in the jail on her own,” Ruth told People. “We actually visited the jail cell that she was held in and it is literally tiny… and to imagine a woman heavily pregnant, a young woman at that time – a young black woman in a jail cell at that time – I felt that was quite hard for me because I just thought what an experience she must have had. It was very traumatic for her, I found that quite difficult.”

The movie follows the story of interracial couple Richard and Mildred Loving, who were sentenced to prison in Virginia in 1958 for getting married.
