Miley Cyrus' Homeless VMAs Date Sentenced to 6 Months in Jail

Jesse Helt, the homeless man who was Miley Cyrus‘ date to the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, got some not so great news on Tuesday (October 7).

The 22-year-old man was sentenced to six months in jail for violating the terms of his probation. Jesse was taken away in handcuffs after the hearing, where he asked the judge for leniency. He said he would “like to be viewed as a good person, not as a nuisance to society,” according to Page Six.

Jesse was arrested on misdemeanor charges back in 2010, but moved to Los Angeles the next year and never met with his probation officer or completed his community service.

Miley Cyrus' Homeless VMAs 2014 Date Jesse Helt Turns Himself In to Oregon Jail

Jesse Helt, the once homeless man who accompanied Miley Cyrus to the 2014 MTV VMAs this past weekend, turned himself into police in Dallas, Oregon and posted $2,500 bail after news broke that he had an outstanding warrant out for his arrest.

Jesse Helt turned himself in tonight to Polk County authorities to address his outstanding legal issues,” Jesse‘s friend Trevor Neilson told the AP via email. “Miley Cyrus will be assisting him with this process, and they both are committed to working to help the other 1.6 million youth who experience homelessness in America each year.”

Back in 2011, Jesse pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal mischief and criminal trespass, where he was sentenced to jail and probation. Jesse violated the sentence, and an arrest warrant was issued.

This past weekend, Miley sent her date on stage to accept an award on her behalf for the homeless youth in America. Watch the enlightening acceptance speech here if you missed it.
