Sara Bareilles Joins Jessie Mueller for 'Waitress' Tony Awards Performance (Video)

Sara Bareilles joins the cast of the Broadway musical Waitress for a performance at the 2016 Tony Awards held at the Beacon Theatre on Sunday (June 12) in New York City.

The 36-year-old singer wrote the music and lyrics for the new musical and she joined star Jessie Mueller to sing the show’s signature song “She Used to Be Mine.”

The full cast of the musical began the performance with the show’s opening number “Opening Up.” Sadly, the show didn’t pick up any awards during the ceremony.

Sara Bareilles & Jessie Mueller Rep 'Waitress' at Tony Awards 2016 with Keri Russell!

Sara Bareilles looks lovely while walking the red carpet at the 2016 Tony Awards held at the Beacon Theatre on Sunday (June 12) in New York City.

The 36-year-old singer was joined at the event by Jessie Mueller, the star of her Broadway musical Waitress, and Keri Russell, who starred in the film version.

Also in attendance was the show’s other star Christopher Fitzgerald with his wife Jessica Stone.

Sara is nominated tonight for Best Original Score for writing the music and lyrics while Jessie and Christopher are both nominated for their acting work. Keri will be presenting during the show.

Carole King, who Jessie played in the Broadway musical Beautiful and who Sara sang with at a recent Tony Awards, also hit the red carpet!

FYI: Sara is wearing a Gomez-Gracia gown. Keri is wearing a Monique Lhuillier dress, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, an Emm Kuo bag, and Jacob & Co. jewelry. Christopher is wearing a Doyle & Mueser bespoke suit. Jessica is wearing a Self-Portrait dress.

Cynthia Erivo & Jane Krakowski Win Big at Drama Desk Awards 2016!

Cynthia Erivo and Jane Krakowski win big at the 2016 Drama Desk Awards held at Anita’s Way on Sunday (June 5) in New York City.

Cynthia, who stars in The Color Purple revival, won for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, while Jane, who stars in She Loves Me, won for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical.

Also winning big that evening were Fiddler on the Roof‘s Danny Burstein and WaitressChristopher Fitzgerald for their roles in their respective musicals.

Other musical theater actors in attendance included She Loves Me cast members Laura Benanti, Zachary Levi, and Nicholas Barasch, Waitress composer and lyricist Sara Bareilles and star of the show Jessie Mueller, Bright Star‘s Carmen Cusack and AJ Shivley, The Color Purple‘s Danielle Brooks, and Broadway stars Khris Davis, Montego Glover and Laura Osnes.

Sara Bareilles Feels Like A 'Very Lucky Girl' Thanks To Tony Awards 2016 Nomination!

Sara Bareilles strikes a pose on the red carpet while attending the 2016 Family Equality Council’s Night At The Pier held on Monday (May 9) in New York City.

The 36-year-old entertainer was joined at the event by hosts Gloria Estefan and Emilio Estefan, On Your Feet! stars Ana Villafane and Josh Segarra, David Hyde Pierce and Waitress star Jessie Mueller.

Sara recently opened up about her Tony Awards 2016 Waitress nomination for Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre.

“Working on Waitress has been a life changing experience personally and professionally,” Sara told Billboard in a statement. “What I have learned from my collaborators on this show and the theater community at large about heart, perseverance, intention, and grace has rewired the way I think about what I put into the world as an artist. Congratulations to all the nominees, as well as all those wonderful shows, actors, singers, dancers and creators who simply make up this truly unique and inspired medium… awards or not. It is truly the highest honor to be sharing this theater season with such outstanding artists. I am very grateful to be here and consider myself a very lucky girl.”

Sara Bareilles Celebrates 'Waitress' Broadway Opening Night!

Sara Bareilles is all smiles while striking a pose at the Broadway opening night after party of Waitress held at Bryant Park Grill on Sunday (April 24) in New York City.

The 36-year-old singer, who wrote and composed the music, was joined at the event by the stars of the play Jessie Mueller, Keala Settle, Kimiko Glenn and director Diane Paulus.

Sara Bareilles' 'Waitress' Musical Breaks a Broadway Record!

Sara Bareilles‘ new Broadway musical Waitress, for which she wrote the music and lyrics, started performances this past weekend in New York City and it has already broken a record!

The new show, starring Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller, set a house record at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre for the most money brought in at a single performance ever at the theatre with $145,532.

The musical was completely sold out for its first four performances and brought in 111.4% of its gross potential, behind only the smash hit shows Hamilton and Wicked, according to Broadway World.

“Today was pretty epic,” Sara wrote on Twitter on Sunday evening after the first weekend of shows wrapped up and it sounds like she’s going to have an epic run with her new show!

Jessie Mueller will bring you to tears with her heartbreaking rendition of Sara Bareilles‘ original song “She Used to Be Mine” during rehearsals for the upcoming Broadway musical Waitress.

Sara wrote the music and lyrics for the new musical, based on the 2007 movie starring Keri Russell.

“She Used to Be Mine” is the character Jenna’s big number in the show and Sara released it as a single late last year. She also released an album with songs from the musical and you can get that now!

Jessie is a Tony-winning actress who previously played Carole King in Beautiful.
