Jharrel Jerome flashes a smile while speaking onstage at his SAG Nom Com screening and panel for When They See Us held at Linwood Dunn Theater at the Pickford Center for Motion Study on Sunday (November 17) in Hollywood.

The 21-year-old actor was joined at the event by series writer Michael Starrbury and executive producer Berry Welsh.

Jharrel took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role as Korey Wise on the Netflix series at the 2019 Emmy Awards.

“This man’s story is so powerful and so strong and painful that I knew that if I was going to be the one person blessed on this planet to tell this story that I had a job to do,” Jharrel Jerome recently expressed (via Fortune). “I would bring the pain that I allowed myself to dive into on set home with me. I had to do justice to this injustice.”

A lot of rising stars are being recognized at the 2019 Time 100 Next event held at Pier 17 on Thursday night (November 14) in New York City.

Among the celebs we’re highlighting in this post are The Farewell‘s Awkwafina, When They See Us‘ Emmy winner Jharrel Jerome, and singer Maggie Rogers.

Also featured here are Emmy-nominated actor and writer Ryan O’Connell from the Netflix series Special, as well as Slave Play writer Jeremy O. Harris.

Awkwafina and Ryan both spoke on stage during the event and Maggie performed!

So many young stars were honored at the 2019 SCAD Savannah Film Festival!

Booksmart‘s Beanie Feldstein, Aladdin‘s Mena Massoud, When They See Us star Jharrel Jerome, and Mickey And The Bear actress Camila Morrone were honored with Breakout Awards at the film festival on Wednesday night (October 30) at the Trustees Theater in Savannah, Georgia.

Last month, Jharrel won the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role in When They See Us.

Jharrel Jerome accepts his very first Emmy award!

The 21-year-old When They See Us actor took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role as Korey Wise on the Netflix series at the 2019 Emmy Awards on Sunday (September 22) at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

He beat out Mahershala Ali (True Detective), Benicio Del Toro (Escape at Dannemora), Hugh Grant (A Very English Scandal), Jared Harris (Chernobyl), and Sam Rockwell (Fosse/Verdon).

“I feel like I should just be in the Bronx right now, chillin,’ waiting for my mom’s cooking but I’m here,” Jharrel said during his speech.

He also gave a shout-out to his fellow nominees, his family, When They See Us director Ava DuVernay, and the Exonerated Five, who gave him a standing ovation.

Angela Bassett strikes a pose with her award while attending the first annual AAFCA TV Honors at the California Yacht Club on Sunday (August 11) in Marina del Rey, Calif.

The Golden Globe winner was honored with Best Female Performance for her role in Fox’s 9-1-1.

Angela Bassett was joined at the event by This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown and his wife, Ryan Michelle Bathe, Ryan Murphy, and director and cast of When They See Us – Ava DuVernay, Aunjanue Ellis, Asante Blackk, Niecy Nash, Jharrel Jerome, Marsha Stephanie Blake, and writer Attica Locke.

Also in attendance was the cast of The Neighborhood Tichina Arnold, Marcel Spears, Max Greenfield, Cedric the Entertainer and Beth Behrs.

AAFCA TV Honors, a new awards fete celebrating outstanding achievement in television. The Neighborhood won Best Comedy, Sterling took home Best Performance Male, Ryan received AAFCA TV Honors ICON Award and When They See Us won Best Limited Series, Best Ensemble and Best Writing.

Jharrel Jerome was nominated for a 2019 Emmy Award for his work in When They See Us.

Extra got the 21-year-old actor’s reaction to the amazing news that he was nominated, and he reflected on how his mom had been with him every step of the way.

“This is the biggest ‘Mama, I made it’ moment. My mom has been there for me since day one. She never doubted me… Before I ever knew what acting was, we sat on her bed trying to figure out what a monologue was, looking through a script for the first time… We were just figuring it out together, and she was willing to be there step by step with me. I will forever owe everything to this woman, so yeah, she’s going to the Emmys,” Jharrel said.

“I’m speechless, I’m mumbled in my head… I am all over the place right now, it’s such a blessing, I am on cloud nine,” he added. “We didn’t know that the first category was going to be lead actor in a limited series or movie… It was like, ‘Huh?’… Shh… So we watched, and it was crazy, man, crazy.”

Yalitza Aparicio, Jharrel Jerome, and Florence Pugh hit the red carpet while attending the Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party at the Los Angeles Theatre on Friday night (February 15) in downtown Los Angeles.

The three actors – along with Joey King and Pose‘s Indya Moore – are on the covers of the new issue, honoring Young Hollywood. The party was presented by Snapchat.

Yalitza stars in the Netflix movie Roma and she is nominated for an Oscar for her performance. Before the event, she joined co-star Marina de Tavira at a screening of the film. See those pics in the gallery!

Florence‘s new movie Fighting with My Family just hit theaters in limited release.
