John Nash Dead - 'A Beautiful Mind' Mathematician & Wife Killed in Car Crash

John Nash, the mathematician who was the subject of the Oscar-winning film A Beautiful Mind, is dead at 86 following a fatal car crash.

The Nobel Prize winner and his wife Alicia, 82, both were killed in the crash, which happened on Saturday (May 23) in New Jersey.

John and Alicia were riding in a taxi when the driver lost control while trying to pass a car in the center lane. The taxi crashed into a guard rail and the Nashes were ejected from the car.

“It doesn’t appear that they were wearing seatbets,” State Police Sgt. Gregory Williams told NJ.com.

John won the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1994 and he is known for his work in game theory. He and his wife become mental health care advocates after his struggle with paranoid schizophrenia, which is featured prominently in the film based on his life.

We send out our thoughts and condolences to the Nash family during this difficult time.
