K-Pop Icon BoA Writes Emotional Letter to Jonghyun Following His Death

BoA is mourning the loss of her SM Entertainment labelmate and friend Kim Jong-Hyun, known as Jonghyun, the SHINee member who tragically died on Monday (December 18).

Following late boy band member’s funeral this week, the 31-year-old “My Name” Korean pop superstar penned a letter to Jonghyun on her Instagram on Thursday (December 21).

“To Jonghyun, who always came to see me in the waiting room at every concert. Why did we always talk about work during our short meetings? Why did we only think about how we could better our work instead of wondering how we’re both living?” she wrote in the emotional letter.

“Today, I couldn’t believe I was in the same place as you, but I couldn’t see you. I wish you would’ve told me at least once. Still, I don’t blame you. The beautiful lyrics and melodies you created will comfort a lot of people and remain in their memories.”

“Don’t be too worried that you left before us. I’ll respect and look after your mom and sister like my own family,” he continued. “I’ll miss you for a very long time. I’m worried because the person who always took my side at meetings is gone now. You and I talked the most during our meetings…I’ll have to get used to not having you here now.”

Jonghyun's Funeral Attended By His SHINee Bandmates

K-Pop star Kim Jong-Hyun, also known just as Jonghyun, was laid to rest during a funeral on Thursday morning (December 21) in Seoul, South Korea.

The late entertainer’s body was carried out of the hospital by his bandmates from SHINee, as well as members of the group Super Junior.

The three-day funeral began on Tuesday with a service for fans at the Asan Medical Center and members of the K-Pop groups BTS, Girls’ Generation, NCT, and BoA were reportedly in attendance to pay their respects.

Korean funerals usually last three days with a burial or cremation on the third day.

While hundreds of fans showed up at the hospital for the first part of the funeral on Thursday, the burial site location is not being disclosed so Jonghyun‘s family can mourn in private.

K-Pop Star Jung Eun Ji Expresses Concern for Mental Health of Fellow Idols Following Jonghyun's Death

Apink‘s main vocalist, Jung Eun Ji, is speaking out about the loss of SHINee‘s Kim Jong-Hyun, better known as Jonghyun, who tragically died on Monday (December 18).

The 24-year-old singer and actress, who was promoting her new drama Untouchable in a press conference on Wednesday (December 20), was asked about Jonghyun‘s passing.

“I was hoping it was a false report. I was not close friends with Jonghyun…but tears were falling as I read the article,” she said. (English translation via Soompi.)

“What is scarier is that my colleagues and friends identify a lot with his final letter that was revealed yesterday. Seeing my colleagues who say they identify with the feeling of depression and that emotion gnawing away at them, I was scared as I thought, ‘What if?’ I may not be able to express the emotions as much as his family or members, but I think many of my colleagues will feel the same way as me. I hope that the idol and entertainment industry will grow to encourage physical and mental health so that something like this doesn’t happen again,” she said.
