'One Day at a Time' Gets Second Life at Pop, Returns in 2020!

Amazing news for fans of the show One Day at a Time!

The beloved series has been renewed for a fourth season by Pop TV and 13 new episodes will premiere in 2020.

One Day at a Time, which stars Justina Machado and Rita Moreno, was previously canceled by Netflix.

“Three months ago, I was heartbroken with the news of our beloved One Day At A Time’s cancellation. Today, I’m overwhelmed with joy to know the Alvarez family will live on,” said executive producer Norman Lear. “Thank you to my producing partner, Brent Miller, our incredibly talented co-showrunners, Mike Royce and Gloria Calderón Kellett, and of course, Sony, for never once giving up on the show, our actors or the possibility that a cable network could finally save a cancelled series that originated on a streaming service. And one last thank you to, Pop, for having the guts to be that first cable network. Even this I get to experience – at 96.”

One Day at a Time will also be aired on CBS later in 2020, after the initial run on Pop.

'One Day at a Time' Finds New Home, But Netflix Might Block It

The beloved series One Day at a Time, which aired for three seasons on Netflix before being canceled last month, might possibly live to see more seasons.

CBS All Access is reportedly interested in saving the series from cancellation, but it’s being reported that Netflix won’t allow the deal to go through.

Netflix has the right to veto any streaming network from picking up the show for at least two years after cancellation. While the show’s executive producer Norman Lear has reached out to Netflix to help save the show, it seems the effort might not work.

“It appears Netflix is unwilling to budge and allow One Day to shift to the much, much smaller CBS All Access,” Vulture reported.

One Day at a Time could still be picked up by a cable network without getting Netflix’s permission.

'One Day at a Time' Cancelled By Netflix & They're Explaining the Reason Why

One Day at a Time has been cancelled by Netflix, and the streaming service is explaining why they made the decision to cancel the show after three seasons.

“We’ve made the very difficult decision not to renew One Day At A Time for a fourth season. The choice did not come easily — we spent several weeks trying to find a way to make another season work but in the end simply not enough people watched to justify another season,” the streaming service explained in a series of tweets.

“To Justina Machado, Todd Grinnell, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rita Moreno: thank you for inviting us into your family. You filled this show with so much heart and warmth and love, it truly felt like home,” Netflix added. “And to anyone who felt seen or represented — possibly for the first time — by ODAAT, please don’t take this as an indication your story is not important. The outpouring of love for this show is a firm reminder to us that we must continue finding ways to tell these stories.”
