Ellen DeGeneres Thanks Her 'Husband' While Accepting Carol Burnett Award at Golden Globes 2020

Ellen DeGeneres is cracking jokes while accepting a major award!

Before the more lighthearted contents of her speech, she began with a message to Australia: “Australia, I love you, my heart goes out to everyone who is suffering in Australia, all the animals that we’ve lost.”

“Thank you so much to the Hollywood foreign press. I feel humbled and honored to receive this, the first person after Carol Burnett is quite an honor, so thank you so much. It’s a prestigious award and what I like most about it is I knew coming in that I would win. I mean, there’s nothing worse than sitting there like most of you waiting and wondering if you’re going to win and politely acting like, I’m going to listen to everyone’s speeches and it’s nice and it’s not,” she said.

She detailed her journey through Hollywood, going on to say: “I got a talk show and I was able to be myself. And that was 17 years ago. And I feel like you’ve all really gotten to know me over the past 17 years. I am an open book. And I couldn’t have done it without my husband Mark. Mark, you are my rock. Thank you for supporting me through this crazy journey I know it wasn’t easy for you or the kids, Rupert and Fiona, go to bed.”

Ellen‘s actual wife, Portia de Rossi, laughed from the audience.

“All I’ve ever wanted to do was make people feel good and laugh. There’s no greater feeling than when someone tells me that I’ve made their day better with my show or that I’ve helped them get through a sickness or a hard time in their lives. But the real power of television for me is that, not that people watch my show, but people watch my show and then they’re inspired to go out and do the same thing in their own lives, make people laugh or be kind or help someone less fortunate than themselves that is the power of television. I’m so, so grateful to be a part of it. Thank you so much, everybody,” she went on to say, ending on an emotional note.

Kate McKinnon Gets Emotional During Golden Globes 2020 Speech for Ellen DeGeneres

Kate McKinnon gives a touching speech about Ellen DeGeneres‘ impact while introducing her win for the Carol Burnett Award at the 2020 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday (January 5) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

“If I hadn’t seen her on TV, I would have thought ‘I could never be on TV. They don’t let LGBT people be on TV.’ And more than that, I would have gone on thinking that I was an alien and that I maybe didn’t have a right to be here,” Kate said during her speech. “She risked her entire life & her entire career in order to tell the truth and she suffered greatly for it. Of course, attitudes change, but only because brave people like Ellen jump into the fire … Thank you, Ellen, for giving me a shot at a good life.”

Kate‘s speech for Ellen quickly gained traction and gained praise on social media.

If you don’t know, Ellen publicly came out during her self-titled talk show in 1997. The show was cancelled soon after.

Ellen is the second ever winner of the Carol Burnett Award, with the first winner being Carol herself.

Kate McKinnon Says She's Traumatized from Peeing in Front of Jennifer Lopez: 'You Don't Forget'!

Kate McKinnon stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday (December 19) and dished about her very awkward run-in with Jennifer Lopez!

The 35-year-old SNL star relived the awkward bathroom incident she had with the 50-year-old actress during her hosting week at Saturday Night Live.

“I walked in [to the bathroom], and she was there, in the mirror fixing her makeup before dinner. I walked in and I was like, ‘Hey, how are ya?’,” Kate told Jimmy Fallon. “I went into a stall and sat down and I was like, ‘Oh my God, no! Now, I have to pee in front of Jennifer Lopez. This is awful.’”

Not wanting J.Lo to hear her pee, Kate decided to “wait it out.”

“And then, like, three minutes went by, and I still hadn’t made a sound. And there we were: stand-off,” Kate continued. “The sound of your own pee in a room alone with Jennifer Lopez is like goats being slaughtered… You don’t forget. It’s pretty bad.”

Kate McKinnon also talked about her new film Bombshell and played a round Dramatic Turn and Read, which saw the two taking turns delivering ridiculous lines they’ve never seen before after declaring “that very well may be, but…” as dramatically and intensely as possible.
