'Today' Pays Tribute to Late WNBC Reporter Katherine Creag

Katherine Creag is being honored.

NBC’s Today paid tribute on Friday morning (February 12) to the late WNBC New York affiliate reporter who died suddenly and unexpectedly Wednesday (February 10) at age 47.

Anchor Craig Melvin remembered her as “a great mom, a great friend and she was a doggone good reporter.”

Savannah Guthrie said, “All of us around here are truly heartbroken. Kat was part of our extended family here at NBC, and a beloved fixture on our local station WNBC.”

WNBC anchor Darlene Rodriguez, visiting the Today set, said: “Kat was a light. She had this very special spirit and energy about her. She came into your space, you were just immediately uplifted because no matter what, she was always in a good mood.”

Katherine Creag, a Beloved NBC New York Reporter, Dies Suddenly at 47

NBC New York reporter Katherine Creag has died at the age of 47.

News 4 reported today that Katherine “passed away suddenly Wednesday evening.” The outlet says that her passing was unexpected and that “she had not been ill and was working as recently as Wednesday morning.”

Katherine joined the WNBC team in 2011 and reported for the Today in New York morning show for years.

WNBC’s vice president of news, Amy Morris, sent an email to staff that said, “For ten years Kat was one of our cornerstones, always willing to help in any situation, whether it was a colleague in need or a shift that needed to be covered. She was thoughtful, funny and relentless. And even on the toughest days she was a bright light, quick with a kind word and a smile.”
