During a recent press event for Idol, Katy shared that she’s trying not to be mean during the auditions.

“The most challenging thing was trying to figure out was how to say ‘no’ to people at first,” Katy said who will be one of the judges of the new show alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

“I don’t think any of us believe in being nasty. What we believe in is being constructive, and giving constructive criticism,” Katy said. “Because it doesn’t help anyone, and people are really sensitive, and we understand because we all walked into a room like that at one time in our life.”

'American Idol' Judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan & Lionel Richie Share Thoughts on Las Vegas Shooting on 'GMA'

American Idol judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan shared their thoughts on the Las Vegas shooting while making their first appearance together on Good Morning America on Wednesday (October 3) in New York City.

“It’s horrible. I think that everybody feels like their heart has just been ripped out of their chest,” Katy, 32, expressed. “We just don’t know when it’s going to happen again and we’re all trying to figure out the answers. I’m not saying I have the answers, and I pray every day. But the one thing we have to remember is prayer without action is powerless.”

“We have to have some action,” Katy continued. “We have to take an unfortunate, good, hard look at what our rules and our boundaries are with gun reform. No one is saying, ‘Take away your guns,’ but we just don’t necessarily need assault rifles, assault weapons.”

“We see the fans. We look at the faces every night on stage. We live for that,” Lionel, 68, added. “They blow the kisses, they sing every word to us. To think for a moment we are now getting to a stage where live performances are in jeopardy — the worst nightmare we ever have in life is something like that would happen.”

FYI: Katy is wearing a Christopher Kane dress.

'American Idol' Producers May Need to Delay Reboot (Report)

American Idol is potentially hitting a serious production snag.

The long-running singing competition may need to delay taping of its highly anticipated 2018 reboot until producers secure more judges, according to a new report.

That’s a potential problem for the one judge they have secured: Katy Perry.

With just weeks to go until the scheduled auditions with the judges, producers aren’t any closer to finalizing any other judges. If they’re forced to delay production, it would likely interfere with Katy‘s ongoing Witness Tour, which kicks off on September 19 in Montreal, Canada.

Idol producers are reportedly still trying to secure country star Luke Bryan as a second judge, but nothing has been finalized – and there are no known leads for a third judge yet, either.
