Kenneth Mitchell, 'Star Trek: Discovery' Actor, Dies at 49

Kenneth Mitchell has sadly passed away.

The Star Trek: Discovery actor died after a five year battle with ALS at the age of 49, his family confirmed in a statement over the weekend.

“With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son and dear friend,” read the post.

Ken was widely known as an actor in many films and television shows. He’s portrayed an Olympic hopeful, an apocalypse survivor, an astronaut, a superhero’s dad, and four unique Star Trekkers,” the statement continued.

'The Old Man' Dog Stars Steal The Spotlight at Premiere with Jeff Bridges

Jeff Bridges stands tall above his two canine co-stars, Freya and Cain, at the premiere of their new FX on Hulu series, The Old Man, at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on Wednesday night (June 8) in Los Angeles.

Freya and Cain had quite a fun time on the red carpet where they had their pictures taken just after running up and down the walkway.

Series stars John Lithgow, Amy Brenneman, E.J. Bonilla, Alia Shawkat, Kenneth Mitchell, Pej Vahdat, Gbenga Akinnagbe, and Bill Heck were also seen at the premiere with series director Jon Watts, executive producers Dan Shotz, Robert Levine, and Warren Littlefield, and EP/writer Jonathan E. Steinberg.

Based on the bestselling novel by Thomas Perry, The Old Man centers on Dan Chase who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since.

When an assassin arrives and tries to take Chase out, the old operative learns that to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past.

The Old Man will debut on June 16 on FX. You can stream the series on Hulu.

Jeff actually filmed much of the show while going through cancer treatments.

Anthony Rapp & Wilson Cruz Talk Gay Romance in 'Star Trek: Discovery': 'Anyone Would Be Happy'

Sonequa Martin-Green and co-star Wilson Cruz are all smiles as they hit the carpet together at the premiere of their new series Star Trek: Discovery held at The Cinerama Dome on Tuesday (September 19) in Los Angeles.

The 32-year-old actress and Wilson, 43, were joined at the event by their other cast mates Anthony Rapp and his boyfriend Teerakeni, Michelle Yeoh, Rainn Wilson, Mary Wiseman, Shazad Latif, Sam Vartholomeos, Doug Jones, Jason Isaacs, Kenneth Mitchell, Mary Chieffo, James Frain and Sonequa‘s husband Kenric Green.

Also in attendance to show their support was Star Trek‘s Nichelle Nichols, Julie Chen and husband Leslie Moonves, Star Trek: Voyager‘s Robert Picardo, and Star Trek: Enterprise‘s Anthony Montgomery.

Anthony and Wilson‘s characters, who share a romance in the show, will be the Star Trek series first openly gay characters.

“It’s the first time two human beings were born themselves and in love with each other as the same gender,” Anthony told CBSN. “Even that he’s Latino and I’m white. We are also colleagues. It’s part of the fabric of it. Anyone would be happy [about the relationship].”
