In the mag, the six ladies open up about sexism in the industry, sex scenes, penis bags and why women need to stop apologizing.
Amy on sexism: “I think people hate women. I don’t think they want to hear a woman talk for too long. A lot of people project their mom yelling at them. My [career] has been about tricking people into listening. I’m not saying all men hate women, but there’s such an aggression.”
Lena on the comedy community: “I also hate how the comedy community is so defensive. People are unwilling to learn. There was a big issue a few years ago with Daniel Tosh and rape jokes. But there couldn’t be a civil conversation about it within the comedy community. I’m a sexual-assault survivor, so I would love to sit down and have a totally nonjudgmental conversation with a male comedian who makes rape jokes. But there isn’t room for that.”
Gina on racism: “I don’t believe it’s an issue of hard-core rac- ism [in Hollywood]. It’s lack of being surrounded by a culture. It’s also about what Hollywood finds financially beneficial. So when we show them shows like Jane the Virgin and Fresh Off the Boat. Show them it’s all a good investment. And it’s not about race. When you vilify it, people shut down.”

Lena Dunham poses with her award backstage at Variety’s Power Of Women New York held at Cipriani 42nd Street on Friday afternoon (April 24).
The 28-year-old Girls actress was just one of many honorees at the event, where she spoke out about her own sexual assault in a moving speech.
“When I was raped I felt powerless. I felt my value had been determined by someone else. Someone who sent me the message that my body was not my own, and my choices were meaningless,” Lena shared on stage.
She continued, “It took years to recognize my personal worth was not tied to my assault; the voices telling me I deserved this were phantoms, they were liars. So as a feminist, as a sexual assault survivor, my ultimate goal is to use my experience, my platform, and yes, my privilege, to reverse stigma and give voice to other survivors.”

“@shirleykurata introduced me to Myidol, an alternative to Bitmoji and I am utterly transfixed. Haven’t been this happy since I got Myst in 4th grade. Also, managed to create this avatar despite the app being in Chinese (a language I don’t read or speak) so maybe I join Mensa? Translations welcome!” Lena wrote on Instagram about her avatar.
