Leonardo DiCaprio Reacts to Rising Wild Tiger Populations (Statement)

Leonardo DiCaprio has released a statement after it was announced that the number of wild tigers has increased for the first time after 100 years in decline.

The 41-year-old actor’s foundation, along with the World Wildlife Fund, committed to doubling the number of wild tigers by 2022. Leonardo‘s foundation has donated over $6.2 million since 2010.

“Tigers are some of the most vital and beloved animals on Earth. With our partners at WWF, my Foundation has supported major efforts to double the number of tigers in the wild. In Nepal, our efforts have produced one of the greatest areas of progress in tiger conservation, which is helping drive this global increase in population. I am so proud that our collective efforts have begun to make progress toward our goal, but there is still so much to be done. I am optimistic about what can be achieved when governments, communities, conservationists and private foundations like ours come together to tackle global challenges,” Leonardo said in a statement.

Leonardo DiCaprio Faces Ban from Indonesia Over Instagram Comments

Leonardo DiCaprio is currently traveling around Indonesia in a fight to help the wildlife there and now the government is threatening to ban him from the country.

The 41-year-old Oscar-winning actor is visiting the Leuser ecosystem, the last place on earth where orangutans, rhinos, tigers and elephants still live together in the wild. It is currently being threatened by Palm Oil agricultural destruction.

In several Instagram posts, Leo has urged his fans to join him in taking action to help preserve the rainforest.

“We support his concern to save the Leuser ecosystem,” Heru Santoso, the spokesman for the Directorate General for Immigration at the Law and Human Rights Ministry, said in a statement to the Associated Press. “But we can blacklist him from returning to Indonesia at any time if he keeps posting incitement or provocative statements in his social media.”
