However, when the 52-year-old actress and comedian tried to reveal to Laverne that she was nominated for an Emmy, it didn’t go over as planned.
As Leslie tries to announce it, she gets a little confused on what Laverne is actually nominated for. First, she mentioned Best Drama Series, before then saying Best Actress, then to Guest Actress.
“I was supposed to do that way smoother,” Leslie told Laverne afterwards, and Laverne was still confused about the announcement.
Laverne picked up a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Orange is the New Black.

Leslie Jones is opening up about the advice she would give her younger self about going to a protest for the first time.
The 52-year-old comedian spoke during an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers this week, and revealed that she once took a sledgehammer to one when she was just 22, which caused destruction.
“I would say, ‘Don’t take that sledgehammer,” Leslie said. “‘Don’t take that sledgehammer.’ Because the sledgehammer literally made me a hero in so many places. I opened up so many doors with that sledgehammer.”
She adds, “I remember I broke—and I have to tell you this—it was a supermarket and there was a chain fence and they couldn’t get it open. So, I came with my sledgehammer and…it went open and everybody was like, ‘Yeah!’”
However, while she was praised by her fellow protesters, Leslie looks back at the decision to take it and cause destruction a bad one on her part.
“I can laugh about it now, but imma tell you, I didn’t laugh when I was riding through my city after that and seeing burnt down buildings and having nowhere to shop,” she shared. “And, you know, seeing black people crying about their business being burnt down. It wasn’t funny then, you know?”
Leslie added, “So, I think I would say to my 22-year-old self, ‘What do you think you’re gonna change by going out there with that?’”
Former Saturday Night Live star Leslie Jones has revealed that she abstained from voting in a majority of the categories for the 2020 Oscars this year.
The reason why? The complete lack of diversity across the board in this year’s nominations.
“Welp I just finished voting for the Oscars. It didn’t take long cause there are no black people on it. So I voted for @CynthiaEriVo and abstained from the rest of the voting,” Leslie tweeted with the hashtag “more black people please,” before following up with, “Ok geeeez yes I voted for @MatthewACherry tooo didn’t think I needed to say that! The post was obvious! No chill. His film was on before @AngryBirdsMovie #iswearimdonewithyall”
Cynthia is up for the Lead Actress award for her work in Harriet and Matthew is up for Best Animated Short for Hair Love.

Leslie Jones paid a visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday (January 22), and dished all about her Netflix stand-up special, Time Machine!
The 51-year-old SNL star explained her reasoning for wanting to do it. “People didn’t know me as a stand-up, [but] all my life I’ve been doing it,” she said. “That’s where my love is. I love people to laugh.”
Jimmy then asked his guest how she recruited the Game of Thrones writers, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, to direct the show, to which Jones responded, “I had a list of directors I wanted.”
Leslie said that she asked Lorne Michaels about the possibility of Steven Spielberg, but Michaels said no. Then she asked about J.J. Abrams, but he was busy doing Star Wars. “Then I was like, who else could catch action, but somebody who shoots a dragon?” laughed Jones. “What am I? A dragon!”
Leslie Jones and Jimmy also got into a heated debate about Below Deck and their very different feelings about the cast.
