Freaky Friday 2 is officially in the works and a new report has revealed alleged plot details for the upcoming movie.

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are expected to reprise their roles in the body-swap comedy, a sequel to the beloved 2003 Disney movie.

In the original movie, Lindsay and Jamie played a mother-daughter duo who swap bodies and are forced to adapt to each other’s lives until they can reverse the curse. The leaked details of Freaky Friday 2 make it sound like a mash-up of Freaky Friday and Lindsay‘s other beloved movie The Parent Trap.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the movie will follow Harper, the 14-year-old daughter of Lindsay‘s character Anna.

Harper is described as “a tomboy with a sharp sense of humor [who is] in a bit of a mood these days because her longtime single mom is set to marry British restaurateur Eric Davis.”

The outlet reports that “Eric also has a 14-year-old daughter, Lily, who does ‘not see eye to eye’ with Harper — even as their families are about to join together via marriage.”

It appears that Harper is going to switch bodies with Anna while Lily is going to switch bodies with Jamie‘s character Tess.

In The Parent Trap, Lindsay played young twins who were unknowingly separated by their parents, with one growing up in the U.S. and the other growing pup in London.

EW reports that these details are from audition scripts provided to prospective actresses for the young roles in the upcoming movie. It’s not confirmed that these scripts are part of the official script.

A director for the movie has been revealed1

There’s been a very exciting update about the Freaky Friday sequel.

On Friday (March 29), it was revealed that Disney had selected a director for the movie, which Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are expected to return for.

The sequel will pick up sometime after the original movie. It premiered in 2003 and starred the likes of Chad Michael Murray. It is not currently clear if anyone else will be reprising their role.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Nisha Ganatra would be directing the movie. It is expected to begun production this summer and will shoot in Los Angeles.

Jamie Lee Curtis has Freaky Friday on her mind, and she’s getting fans excited for the movie’s long-awaited sequel.

On Friday (March 29), she took to social media to share a photo from a recent reunion with costar Lindsay Lohan. In the accompanying caption, she seemingly assured fans that things were moving along according to plan.

In the photo, Jamie and Lindsay are smiling for the camera while cuddled up next to one another. “DUH,” Jamie wrote in the caption, adding, “FFDEUX” and tagging Disney.

Lindsay liked the picture but does not appear to have commented on it. Her brother Dakota Lohan left a few heart emojis for Jamie in the comments section.

The costars’ reunion took place back in November 2023.

“Too late. YOU GREW UP and SO BEAUTIFULLY!” she wrote in the original caption. “Well, it’s Friday, and the strike is over so hopefully, we can switch places again in the near future!”

The Parent Trap co-stars haven’t reunited on a project since the 1998 film. Lisa Ann, 60, currently stars on the hit ABC sitcom Abbott Elementary.

Lindsay, 37, recently featured in the Mean Girls musical movie.

Back in January, Lisa Ann said that she’d “love” for Lindsay to guest star a a family member of her character in Abbott Elementary.

On potential plans for the sequel…

“I think one of the fun things [to explore in the sequel] is that mothers and daughters have that kind of relationship or issue during their teenage years, but I think, the next time there is conflict is when the daughters have kids of their own. And so, it was so funny that Lindsay is having her baby and just what would Tess be like in that in that kind of relationship when she’s a grandmother? I think that would be super interesting,” Andrew mused when thinking about plots that could center the Freaky Friday sequel.

He continued, saying, “Trying to find an idea that also serviced Jamie and Lindsay but also worked in all these other characters, was one of the hardest things to do, but I’m telling you Elyse [Hollander], the writer, just came up with this super funny, heartwarming idea.”

Mark also chimed in: “I think the plot is basically about a baby boom grandmother, seeing her daughter as a helicopter mom, kind of like a Millennial mom, who’s kind of doing everything in a way that they disagree with how they’re doing things, and then they’re forced to kind of switch and walk in each other’s shoes. So, I think it’s an interesting idea. I love that Jamie’s excited about it. I wish them well, whether or not I’m involved in or not.”

He added that he’d like to see “a young female director” tackle the project.
