Bette Midler, Lorne Michaels & More Will Be Honored at 44th Annual Kennedy Center Honors

Bette Midler and Lorne Michaels are just two of the stars who will be honored at the Kennedy Center Honors this year.

The 75-year-old singer and 76-year-old Saturday Night Live creator will be toasted alongside musician Joni Mitchell, Motown founder Berry Gordy and opera singer Justino Diaz.

The Kennedy Center Honors is an annual honor given to those in the performing arts for their lifetime of contributions to American culture.

They have been presented since 1978, culminating each December in a star-studded gala celebrating the honorees in the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, D.C.

Just a few months ago, the 2020 honorees – including Dick Van Dyke and Debbie Allen – were honored in a delayed event, due to the pandemic.

“Growing up in Detroit, I was not only Black but the ‘black sheep’ of my family,” Berry shared in a statement of the honor. “I was a failure at everything I did until I was 29 years old… The Arts not only give voice to the voiceless, but connect us, transform us, and soothe our souls. The Kennedy Center Honors epitomizes the recognition and value of both the Arts, and the Artist.”

Bette added in her own, “I am profoundly touched by this honor, in fact, I am stunned and grateful beyond words. For many years I have watched this broadcast celebrating the best talent in the performing arts that America has to offer, and I truly never imagined that I would find myself among these swans.”

Jack White to Replace Morgan Wallen as 'Saturday Night Live' Musical Guest

Jack White is the new musical guest on Saturday night’s (October 10) episode of Saturday Night Live.

The 45-year-old musician will replace country star Morgan Wallen, who was dropped from the show earlier in the week after it was discovered that he was partying without a mask at a crowded house party, Deadline reported Friday (October 9).

SNL creator Lorne Michaels made the announcement on NBC’s Today, along with possible surprise guests.

“It has to be somebody who is ready to go,” he said of the announcement.

This will be Jack White‘s third solo appearance as musical guest, and fourth overall.

Wallen was dropped from the show for failing to maintain safety protocols, but will be invited back, Michaels said in an excerpt from a lengthier interview to air on Sunday Today,” Deadline also reported.

Chris Kattan Says Lorne Michaels Pressured Him to Have Sex With 'Night At The Roxbury' Director

Chris Kattan is raising an accusation against his former Saturday Night Live boss, Lorne Michaels.

The 48-year-old actor opened up in his memoir Baby Don’t Hurt Me: Stories & Scars From Saturday Night Live.

In the memoir, Chris accused Lorne of pressuring him to have sex with A Night At The Roxbury‘s then-director Amy Heckerling to try and keep her attached to the project.

“I was attracted to Amy, but at the same time very afraid of the power she and Lorne wielded over my career,” he wrote.

One night after working prior to the movie’s filming, she allegedly asked him to have sex.

“I was shocked. Was she joking?” he wrote. He “tried to keep it light…the conversation ended there.”

Lorne called him the next day, and said that “Paramount would only do the movie if Amy signed on as a director, not as producer,” and if he “wanted to make sure the movie happened, then [he] had to keep Amy happy.”

He reportedly said: “Chris, I’m not saying you have to f–k her, but it wouldn’t hurt.”

He ultimately went through with it: “I was too scared. The last thing I wanted was to have someone hear Lorne say ‘career ender’ about me. To this day, whenever I think about that conversation with Lorne, I still feel repellingly pathetic,” he wrote.

“She thought it would be fun to have sex on Lorne’s desk. I said a polite ‘F–k, no!’ to that, so we ended up going to her office and having sex on… yep, you guessed it, the ‘casting couch.’”

John Fortenberry ultimately stepped in as director.
