Lucy Liu stops by the Ritz-Carlton New York and Wella Professionals Beauty Bar booths at the Official Presenter Gift Lounge at the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards held at Santa Monica Pier on Saturday (February 25).

The 43-year-old actress is set to play Joan Watson, Sherlock Holmes’ sidekick in CBS’ drama pilot Elementary, written by Robert Doherty.

According to Deadline, the series is “set in present day and stars Jonny Lee Miller as eccentric Brit Holmes, a former consultant to Scotland Yard whose addiction problems led him to a rehab center in New York City. Just out of rehab, Holmes now lives in Brooklyn with “sober companion” Joan Watson (Liu), a former surgeon who lost her license after a patient died, while consulting for the NYPD.”

The 43-year-old Southland actress wore a Roberto Cavalli dress, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, a Roger Vivier bag, and Piaget jewelry.

Lucy, who presented the Best Supporting Female award to The Descendants‘ Shailene Woodley, made her way into the official backstage gifting lounge with her manager. She picked up a free year membership to Crunch gym, AMC Theatres movie passes, and New Balance sneakers!

“I just finished the show [Southland], so I’m in the process of moving my stuff back to NY,” Lucy told JustJared.com exclusively. “I just love the city, there’s just so much culture and not everyone’s in the [entertainment] industry.”

Chris hit the stage during the show with Jessica Chastain to present Best Male Lead to The Artist‘s Jean Dujardin.

Lucy Liu gets into character as a LAPD officer on the set of Southland on Tuesday (November 8) In Los Angeles.

The 42-year-old actress shot some scenes with Michael Cudlitz for the TNT drama, which returns January 17.

“You definitely get the grittiness, the reality of it. You just jump in headfirst. I’ve done a couple of stunts, and, you know, it’s not about padding you up. It’s about throwing you around,” Lucy recently said about playing a cop.

“I don’t think my martial-arts training is going to save me in this environment,” she added. “They can be running around using their guns.”

Lucy Liu celebrates the book launch of “Lucy Liu: Seventy Two” at designer Tory Burch‘s Madison Avenue boutique on Wednesday (October 12) in New York City.

The book showcases 72 abstract ink and acrylic paintings created by Lucy. For each copy sold at the event, the book’s publisher, Salma Editions, donated 5% of all proceeds to the Tory Burch Foundation and another 5 percent to UNICEF (Lucy is an ambassador).

Guests included The Last Airbender‘s Nicola Peltz (with older brother Matt), Lucy‘s boyfriend, hedge fund manager Noam Gottesman, Jessica Lange, and Carla Gugino (wearing a Max Mara black and white jumpsuit as well as the Arlette Trench and the Robinson Clutch from Tory Burch).

Lucy Liu steps out in Monique Lhuillier at the 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards held at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall on Monday (June 6) in New York City.

The 42-year-old actress wore a Noir Chantilly lace ball gown with embroidered tulle and ostrich feather skirt for the event, which she attended with the designer herself.

Late last month, Lucy promoted her new flick, Kung Fu Panda 2, in Los Angeles and New York City.

The animated movie, which also features the voices of Jack Black and Angelina Jolie, brought in $24.3 million over the weekend – breaking the $100 million mark domestically!
