Maggie Smith Responds to Jimmy Kimmel Emmys 2016 Lost & Found Joke

Maggie Smith has responded to Jimmy Kimmel‘s bit at last night’s Emmy Awards, where he claimed he was putting her trophy in the lost and found!

The 81-year-old legendary actress won the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series award for her work on Downton Abbey. Earlier in the show, Jimmy said he would be putting any award in lost and found if the recipient was not around to claim the prize. Maggie was not in attendance at the show.

“I was very astonished and pleased to win the award. I feel the Emmys have been overly generous to me. If Mr. Kimmel could please direct me to the lost and found office I will try and be on the next flight. Love, Old Maggie, ” she wrote.

Jimmy Kimmel Refuses to Give Maggie Smith Her Emmy

Jimmy Kimmel set up a rule at the beginning of the 2016 Emmy Awards that if anyone wins and is not in attendance, they are not allowed to get their award… and it was all because of Maggie Smith.

The legendary actress has won three Emmys throughout her career, but she has never been at the show to accept the awards.

Well, Maggie won again this year in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category for her work on Downton Abbey.

After the win, Jimmy ran out on stage and announced that he will be putting the award into the “lost and found” and not be sending it to Maggie. Of course, it’s all a joke!

Maggie Smith Has Never Watched 'Downtown Abbey'

Maggie Smith opens up about the end of Downton Abbey in this rare new interview.

The 80-year-old actress has won multiple awards for her role as Lady Violet, Dowager Countess, including two Emmys and a Golden Globe.

When asked if she’s ever seen the show, Maggie told CBS News, “No. But they gave me the boxed set. And I’m going to do all sorts of things now, ’cause I’m free!”

She also revealed that she would often skip wearing a corset while filming.

“In actual fact, I have to say that I did cheat a bit. Because I promised that if I sat up, bolt upright, I made it look as though I were wearing corsets,” Maggie said. “Don’t tell anybody…I don’t want it to be put around. I was tortured every day.”

The final season of Downton Abbey premieres on Sunday, January 3 @ 9/8c on PBS Masterpiece.
