Johnny Depp's Co-Star Mark Rylance Defends Him Against Allegations of Violence

Mark Rylance is opening up with his thoughts on the allegations made against Johnny Depp.

The Oscar-winning actor stars in the new movie Waiting for the Barbarians with Johnny.

Johnny was accused of domestic violence against Amber in an op-ed that she wrote for the Washington Post and he is suing her for $50 million for defamation.

“My impression of him was a very loving and very sensitive and very trustworthy person,” Mark said in a new interview with The Times UK. “Intensely, intensely shy. You know? Like Daniel Day-Lewis and so many great actors are. The accusations that were around at the time we were making the film were of physical violence. And he obviously denied this and I found his denial completely believable. It didn’t seem to be part of his character at all.”

Johnny Depp Talks Special Prop Used In 'Waiting For The Barbarians'

Johnny Depp and Mark Rylance cuddle up at the Waiting For The Barbarians photo call held during the 2019 Deauville American Film Festival on Sunday (September 8) in Deauville, France.

The 56-year-old actor recently opened up about the shades he wears in the movie, that really helped him get into character for the film.

“When Ciro [Guerra] came up with that shape… They were threatening; they were menacing somehow,” Johnny told Variety. “He wore them to make the magistrate as uncomfortable as possible.”

“I think he’s learned a number of tricks over the years. He realized that stillness and silence and quiet, and holding your response to a question, is quite disturbing to the person on the other side,” he continued.

Earlier in the week, the co-stars premiered their new movie at the 2019 Venice Film Festival in Italy.
