Martin Bashir Releases Statement Amid Findings He Used Deceitful Methods For Princess Diana Panorama Interview

Martin Bashir has responded to the report that he used “deceitful methods” to secure a controversial 1995 BBC “Panorama” interview with Princess Diana to get her to reveal information about the royal family.

If you’re unfamiliar with the interview, in Martin‘s discussion with the late royal, she had revealed the inner workings of royal life and her relationships with other members of the Royal Family, including her husband at the time, Prince Charles. The interview also famously had the Princess confirming that their marriage was the “three of us” in her marriage to Charles, referencing Camila Parker-Bowles.

It’s been reported that Martin had mislead Diana into believing that Charles impregnated their children’s nanny and William was spying on her for Charles.

Martin had also mocked up bank statements of tabloid payments which were shown to Diana‘s brother, Earl Spencer. Those statements were used to gain the family’s trust and convince her to do the interview.

BBC Reporter Claims Princess Diana Was His Source for 'Smears' of Royal Family

Martin Bashir is the BBC reporter who interviewed Princess Diana back in 1995 and who has been accused of lying to her in order to secure the interview.

The infamous interview included Diana‘s mention that there were “three of us in this marriage” with Prince Charles, referring to his future with Camilla Parker Bowles.

An investigation into Bashir was launched last year amid allegations that he lied to Diana in order to get her to agree to do the interview. Now, Bashir is claiming that Diana herself was the source of “smears” against the royal family.

Diana‘s brother Earl Spencer says that he noted down some allegations against the royal family that were said during a meeting between the late princess and Bashir, two months before the interview aired.

New York Post reports that some of the “smears” included that the “Queen was ill and on the verge of abdication, that Prince Charles was in love with his children’s nanny, and that Prince William wore a Swatch watch that contained a bugging device.”

Leaked documents that were released by The Telegraph show that Bashir claims that he did not make up the “smears” during the meeting and that Diana made those remarks.

A long-rumored story about Princess Diana was just confirmed by a celeb last week.
