Will Smith & Martin Lawrence Admit 'Bad Boys For Life' Took Long Because 'The Script Wasn't Right'

Will Smith is all smiles as he poses alongside his longtime co-star Martin Lawrence while attending their photo call for Bad Boys For Life held at Terrasse Du Cafe de l’Hommeon on Monday (January 6) in Paris, France.

The guys were joined at the press event alongside their writer-directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, as well as producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

In the new film, the Bad Boys Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are back together for one last ride together.

In a new interview with GQ, Martin explained why production on the long-awaited film was so delayed: “The script wasn’t right,” he said. “And Will [Smith], to his credit, refused to do the movie until the script was right. It wouldn’t have been a good movie. We didn’t want that. We wanted to do a sequel where people would go, ‘Oh, man, that’s what I’m talking about. It just gets better.’”

Martin Lawrence Says He Helped Hire Will Smith for 'Bad Boys'

Martin Lawrence and Will Smith share an embrace while walking on stage for their interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, airing on Wednesday (December 4).

The guys were on the show to promote their upcoming movie Bad Boys For Life and Martin opened up about how Will was hired for the first film.

Martin was already cast in the first Bad Boys and says his sister “brought Will to [his] attention.”

“She was like, ‘you should do a movie with Will.’ And so I called Will and we set up a dinner and Will came to my house. Five minutes after talking to Will, he got the job. It was like one of the best things I’ve done and now Will is like the franchise. You can’t do it without him,” Martin said.
