Valerie Harper has nothing but the nicest things to say about her late co-star Mary Tyler Moore!

The 78-year-old actress says that Mary was the most “giving person” but her biggest gift of all was something you wouldn’t expect!

“She taught me to divorce,” Valerie told People.

Valerie went on to explain that she was the first person Mary told about her plans to separate from her second husband.

The news “ignited” Valerie to make up her mind to finally end her own marriage, which led to her finding her now-husband Tony Cacciotti.

“He’s the reason I’m still here,” Valerie said.

Mary Tyler Moore‘s husband, Dr. S. Robert Levine, has broken his silence on the death of his wife of over 33 years.

“I can’t believe she is gone. Mary was my life, my light, my love. The emptiness I feel without her with me is without bottom. She was a force of nature who fiercely defended her autonomy even as her health was failing. Mary was fearless, determined, and willfull. If she felt strongly about something, or that there was truth to be told, she would do it, no matter the consequences,” he told People.

“She was kind, genuine, approachable, honest, and humble. And she had that smile. Oh, to see her smile that smile, just once more. … My sadness is only tempered by the remarkable outpouring of good wishes, tributes, and personal ‘Mary stories’ told, with heart, by those touched by her grace,” Robert‘s statement continued. “As long as we all remember her, talk about her, share our stories about her, and what she meant to us, her light will never go out.”

Mary Tyler Moore has been laid to rest following her death last week at the age of 80.

The legendary actress was buried at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Connecticut on Sunday (January 29) and her funeral was closed to the public. About 50 friends and family attended the private service, including Bernadette Peters.

“It was very quiet, a small group,” Fairfield Police Lt. James Perez told the Connecticut Post. “There was a brief service. It’s a beautiful site that she’s at. It’s nice what the family did. It was a nice little send-off for her.”

There have been reports that Mary‘s family purchased 12 plots in the cemetery to ensure that she will have privacy in the future.

Betty White is speaking out to pay tribute to her late friend and former co-star Mary Tyler Moore after the legendary actress passed away this week.

The ladies worked together on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Betty joined the show mid-way through the series in 1973 and won two Emmys for her work.

Betty shared a photo of her and Mary with their former spouses, Allen Ludden and Grant Tinker, respectively.

“Mary Tyler Moore, Grant Tinker, Allen Ludden and I had some of the best times of my life together. She was special,” she captioned the pic on Instagram.

Allen passed away in 1981. Grant was married to Mary until 1981 and he died this past November.
