Constance Wu Slams Matt Damon's Casting in 'The Great Wall'

Constance Wu is speaking out to slam the casting of Matt Damon in the upcoming movie The Great Wall as it is “perpetuating the racist myth that only a white man can save the world.”

“Our heroes don’t look like Matt Damon. They look like Malala. Ghandi. Mandela,” the Fresh Off the Boat actress wrote in a lengthy note on Twitter.

Constance says that “it’s not about blaming individuals… it’s about pointing out the repeatedly implied racist notion that white people are superior to POC and that POC need salvation from our own color via white strength. When you consistently make movies like this, you are saying that… Whether you intend to or not.”

After releasing the note, Constance went back on Twitter to say that she isn’t blaming Matt, the studio, or the financiers of the movie. She just wants to create awareness.
