Megyn Kelly Issues Apology to 'Today' Viewers Over Blackface Comments

Megyn Kelly has issued a response to her extremely controversial comments about blackface made this week during her hour of the Today show.

“I want to begin with two words: I’m sorry. I was wrong and I am sorry. One of the great parts of sitting in this chair is getting to discuss different points of view. Sometimes I talk and sometimes I listen, and yesterday I learned. I learned given the history of blackface being used in awful ways by racists in this country, it is not OK for that to be part of any costume, Halloween or otherwise,” she said.

Megyn continued, “I’ve never been a PC person but I do understand the value in being sensitive to our history, particularly on race and ethnicity. This past year has been so painful for many people of color. The country feels so divided, and I have no wish to add to that pain and offense. I believe this is a time for more understanding, more love, more sensitivity and honor and I want to be part of that. Thank you for listening and helping me listen too.”

Megyn Kelly Apologizes to Coworkers for Blackface Comments

Megyn Kelly is apologizing for her recent comments defending the idea of wearing blackface during Halloween for a costume.

Megyn sent an internal email, obtained by Variety on Tuesday (October 23), directly after making her comments.

“One of the wonderful things about my job is that I get the chance to express and hear a lot of opinions. Today is one of those days where listening carefully to other points of view, including from friends and colleagues, is leading me to rethink my own views,” she wrote.

“I realize now that such behavior is indeed wrong, and I am sorry. The history of blackface in our culture is abhorrent; the wounds too deep…I’ve never been a ‘pc’ kind of person — but I understand that we do need to be more sensitive in this day and age. Particularly on race and ethnicity issues which, far from being healed, have been exacerbated in our politics over the past year. This is a time for more understanding, love, sensitivity and honor, and I want to be part of that. I look forward to continuing that discussion.”
