Why Is 'Tenet' Sticking with Summer 2020 Release Date Amid Coronavirus? Here's the Answer

Tenet‘s release date keeps getting pushed back by small increments of two weeks at a time and many are wondering why the film is not being delayed by months due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

With cases surging across the United States, fans are pointing out that the film will likely make so much less money than it would under totally normal box office circumstances.

Well, THR is explaining why the Christopher Nolan-flick is determined to be released as soon as possible.

During a phone call, when studio heads apparently urged Christopher to push back the release date for a safer and more economically sound date, he resisted. “Nolan said it wasn’t about money, but instead about the desire to be the one the first big studio films back in theaters, to show faith in the form and solidarity with exhibitors, when they’re allowed to open and say they’re ready,” THR reports.

The release date is currently set for August 12.

Christopher Nolan's 'Tenet' Pushed Back Another Two Weeks to August 2020

Fans will have to wait another couple weeks to see the upcoming Christopher Nolan movie Tenet as Warner Bros. has decided to push its release again.

The film was originally scheduled to be released in theaters on July 17, but then the studio decided to delay the release to July 31 amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Movie theaters around the country are planning on reopening on July 15, but COVID-19 cases are rising in the U.S. and things might change for reopening plans. The Tenet release date is now going to be August 12, but this could still change.

“Warner Bros. is committed to bringing Tenet to audiences in theaters, on the big screen, when exhibitors are ready and public health officials say it’s time,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson said in a statement (via Variety). “In this moment what we need to be is flexible, and we are not treating this as a traditional movie release. We are choosing to open the movie mid-week to allow audiences to discover the film in their own time, and we plan to play longer, over an extended play period far beyond the norm, to develop a very different yet successful release strategy.”

Warner Bros. will bring the 10th anniversary edition of Nolan‘s Inception to theaters on July 31.

'Tenet' Movie Release Delayed By Two Weeks to July 31

The highly anticipated Christopher Nolan movie Tenet will be released in theaters on July 31, two weeks after the original release date of July 17.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Nolan was adamant that his movie be released in theaters instead of on VOD like some other films over the past few months. Reports stated that he was hopeful that the movie could maintain its July 17 release date.

Warner Bros. will now release a 10th anniversary edition of Nolan‘s movie Inception on July 17 to get fans excited for the release of Tenet.

“We are excited that our partners at Warner Bros. will offer a new generation of film fans the opportunity to enjoy Inception the way it was originally intended to be seen — on the big screen. Over these last months we have been keeping Warner Bros. closely informed of our work towards reopening our theatres in accordance with governmental health and safety requirements, and we are looking forward to audiences enjoying Tenet in our theaters all around the world on July 31st,” the National Association of Theater Owners said in a statement.

Most movie theaters around the country have been closed since mid-March and some are beginning to reopen with social distancing measures in place.

Rita Ora, Lena Headey, & Michael Caine Will Star in Contemporary 'Oliver Twist' Film

Rita Ora, Lena Headey, and Michael Caine are teaming up for the new movie Twist!

The 28-year-old “Ritual” singer, the 46-year-old Game of Thrones actress, and the 86-year-old The Dark Knight Rises actor have all signed on for the UK film, a contemporary update of the Charles Dickens classic “Oliver Twist,” Deadline reports.

Little Britain‘s David Walliams, Legends of Tomorrow‘s Franz Drameh, and Daybreak‘s Sophie Simnett will also star, along with with newcomer Raff Law (son of Jude Law) in the title role.

Here’s the synopsis: “Oliver is reinvented as a streetwise artist living on the streets of day London. A chance encounter with a gang of grifters led by the charismatic Dodge (Rita Ora) sees Twist (Law) caught up in a high stakes heist to steal a priceless painting for master thief, Fagin (Caine), and his psychopathic business partner, Sikes (Headey).”

Franz will play Batesey, Sophie will play Red, and David will play Losberne. Martin Owen will direct.

Production begins this autumn.

Twist will be available on Comcast-owned Euro broadcaster Sky’s UK movie platform Sky Cinema. That same day, there will be a limited theatrical release in the market via Altitude.

Michael Caine said, “Fagin is such an infamous character, it’s going to be great fun playing him. I’m really looking forward to working with Lena, Raff and the rest of the cast in London when we start shooting.”

Lena Headey added, “I couldn’t be more excited to take on the iconic character of Sikes from ‘Oliver Twist.’ Flipping roles without apology or character softening is a brilliant way to breathe new life into established materials and bring it to new audiences.”

Raff chimed in, “I’m excited to play such a well-loved literary character, and I’m looking forward to working with Martin Owen to bring to life his new take on the character in modern-day London.”

Michael Caine Reveals Whether He Would Work With Woody Allen Again

Michael Caine is making it clear: he will never work with Woody Allen again.

The 84-year-old Academy Award-winning actor, who won an Oscar for his film Hannah and Her Sisters directed by Woody in 1987, says he will not work with the director again in light of Dylan Farrow‘s abuse allegations.

“I am so stunned. I’m a patron of the NSPCC [National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children] and have very strong views about pedophilia,” he told The Guardian.

“I can’t come to terms with it, because I loved Woody and had a wonderful time with him. I even introduced him to Mia [Farrow]. I don’t regret working with him, which I did in complete innocence; but I wouldn’t work with him again, no,” he concluded.

Woody has repeatedly denied the allegations made by his daughter, Dylan.
