Michael Fassbender & Marion Cotillard Aren't Worried About The Video Game Film Curse With 'Assassin's Creed'

Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard are confident with their work in Assassin’s Creed and are not worried about the “curse” on video game adaptations.

“I was naive to be honest, it’s only in a hindsight in one, sort of journalists to tell you there’s a curse on video games. Then you go through the films that have been made… It’s only a curse until somebody makes a good one, and then it’s a different story,” the 39-year-old actor recently told IGN.

“For me, I just found this universe to be fascinating and I thought there was so much in it that would lend itself so well to cinema experience,” Michael added. “Never really concern me, and again, those kind of worries, or anything, you would stress around these areas is pointless, because there’s nothing you can do about that all. Only you can do is focus your energies and try to make something good. Stressing about things like that don’t get you anywhere.”

“Justin [Kurzel] is an amazing director with a vision, who’s not just a technician,” Marion, 41, expressed. “That’s why Michael got Justin on board, was to have the movie of the director, and not just a movie based on a video game, with very good technicians; and a studio movie. There’s a vision behind the project.”

Michael Fassbender Says 'Assassin's Creed' Set Was Like The U.N!

Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard have teamed up with Australian director Justin Kurzel once again on their new film Assassin’s Creed, which was shot in Malta, Spain and England, and is based on a hugely popular video game inspired by a Slovenian novel.

“It was great. It was an international set. We also had a French woman, a Swede, a French man, so it was a nice mix. It was like the UN,” the 39-year-old actor expressed while promoting the flick with Marion, 41, and Justin at their photo call for Assassin’s Creed on Monday (November 28) in Sydney, Australia.

“These sort of films tend to be… If you’re doing over the 100 million [US dollar] mark, in general people are looking for a series of films,” Michael added. “So the universe of Assassin’s Creed allows us to go forward and make some more films, depending obviously on how this one does.”

“When I worked with Justin the first time, and all these amazing people he brought with him to work on Macbeth, I just had a very, very strong experience,” Marion added. “Justin is definitely one of the best directors I’ve worked with so I was super excited and happy to get to work with him again on this very different project.”

FYI: Marion is wearing an Audra dress paired with Ofée Joaillerie earrings.

Michael Fassbender Reveals How His Family Helps with Emotionally Charged Scenes

Michael Fassbender gives a time out on the cover of Esquire magazine’s December/January 2016 cover story.

Here’s what the 39-year-old actor had to share with the mag:

On if he’s a gamer after starring in Assassin’s Creed: “The last time I had a serious stint with video games was 2000. There was a period of time where I was working in this warehouse at night. I would come home in the morning and just sit down in front of this racing game—I can’t even remember the name of it—and play it over and over.”

On his family: “They’re very much a part of who I am. Somebody was asking me…when I do emotional scenes, how do I go about getting there? What I do more often than not is pray to relatives who are gone. I feel like they are there with me. There are times in life where I’ve just thought, Somebody was looking after me there. Somebody was looking out for me.”

On playing Steve Jobs in Jobs: “I always liked him. I never wanted to represent him in a vile way. When I watch [the film] now, I just see someone who found it difficult to come to terms with other people.”
