Michael Fassbender gives a kiss to his trophy in the winners room at the Irish Film and Television Awards 2012 held at the Dublin Convention Centre on Saturday (February 11) in Dublin, Ireland.

The 34-year-old actor picked up the award for Best Leading Actor in a Film for his work in Shame.

Michael is currently in talks to star in Ridley Scott‘s upcoming flick The Counselor, according to Deadline. The two worked together on this year’s highly anticipated film Prometheus.

The Counselor is about “a respected lawyer who thinks he can dip a toe in to the drug business without getting sucked down. It is a bad decision and he tries his best to survive it and get out of a desperate situation.”

Carey Mulligan and Michael Fassbender walk the red carpet together at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards 2012 held at The BFI Southbank on Thursday (January 19) in London, England.

The Shame co-stars were both nominated for their work in the controversial film, which also picked up a nomination for Best British Film of the Year.

Michael was nominated in both the Best Actor of the Year and Best British Actor of the Year categories while Carey picked up a nomination for Best British Actress of the Year.

Also pictured inside: War Horse actor Jeremy Irvine, who was nominated for Best Young British Performer of the Year.

Michael Fassbender shows off his shirtless body in a new spread for W Magazine‘s February 2012 issue.

Here is what the 34-year-old Shame actor had to share with the mag:

On being nude in films since his first job: “From the start of my career, I’ve been naked. My first job was a commercial for SAS airlines. In the spot, I wake up in a pink room next to a beautiful blonde girl and get out of bed naked. From that point forward, it’s been in all of my contracts: He must be naked in this film.”

On signing on for Shame: “Steve [McQueen] told me the story of Shame and I said, ‘That’s it—I’m in. Let’s start the research immediately.’ ”

On his sex addicted character Brandon: “I must admit—I initially thought it might be fun. You hear ‘sex,’ and you think…sex! But this was definitely the hardest job I’ve done. I can usually shake a character off, but I couldn’t shake Brandon. He had no sensual enjoyment in his life, and since we filmed the movie so quickly, I found myself living in his skin. Keeping him close to me was exhausting, cold, horrible. As Brandon, I never ate. He had one container of Chinese food in his fridge. All that sex and he didn’t have any pleasure. That sad container of noodles tells you more about Brandon than any nudity.”

Here’s what the 34-year-old Shame actor had to share:

On fighting for roles in the early ’00s: “I came to Los Angeles and did auditions for television. I made a terrible mess of most of them and I was quite intimidated. I felt very embarrassed and went back to London. I got British television jobs intermittently between the ages of 23 and 27, but it was very patchy.”

On meeting with a recovering sex addict for Shame research: “One man had the same intimacy issues that Brandon had, so it was very helpful to me, and I was very grateful that he opened up.”

On his role in A Dangerous Method: “I was a bit worried that I’d perhaps bitten off more than I could chew. But I’m always interested in trying to investigate different personalities. I want to keep myself guessing and keep the fear element alive, so that I don’t get too comfortable.”

For tonight’s awards Michael is nominated in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama for his work in Shame.

Michael Fassbender takes the cover of British GQ‘s February issue.

The 34-year-old actor, who also covered GQ Italia‘s December issue, was recently named Best Actor at the Los Angeles Film Critics Associations Awards, which was held Friday (January 13) at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Calif.

“Now is a different time for me. My work is really eight months ago on Shame, A Dangerous Method, whatever that was – 15 months ago. So, you know, I really concentrate very intensely at the time on what I’m doing. And so I wash away one from the next,” Michael told the Telegraph.

“I don’t preference. I just sort of do the best that I can to tell the story,” he added. “So I keep it that simple. So, when it comes out now, it’s like, well, I don’t know, there’s not a lot for me to really say, or do. Because it’s like it’s open. The public really sees it and they take what they want from it.”

Michael Fassbender heats up the cover of Interview‘s latest issue.

Here’s what the 34-year-old Haywire and Shame actor had to share with Josh Brolin (the two co-starred in 2010′s Jonah Hex):

On taking time off from work: “I just went off for two months traveling around Europe on a motorcycle and pretty much turned my phone off. I did 5,000 miles with my dad. We went through Holland, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Italy … and then I did Spain and France by myself.”

On choosing roles: “I like characters that are flawed because we all are. When people break up in a script, you think, Oh, right, there must be tears shed here. But maybe the fact of the matter is that they’re both laughing. People are complicated. Our behavior towards one another is strange. So I like opportunities to investigate that.”
