'Monsters University' Wins Second Weekend Box Office!

Monsters University topped the weekend’s box office for the second week in a row, earning $46.2 million!

According to THR, Disney and Pixar’s long-awaited prequel – starring Billy Crystal and John Goodman – now has a domestic total of $171 million and an international total of $129.3 million.

Coming in strong at No. 2 was Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy‘s buddy comedy The Heat, which impressed with a $40 million opening.

Taking the No. 3 spot was Brad Pitt‘s latest flick World War Z, bringing in an additional $30 million.

Rounding out the top five were White House Down, starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, and Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill and Amy Adams, bringing in $25.7 million and $20.8 million, respectively.

Seth Rogen‘s directorial debut This Is the End grossed an additional $8.7 million in its third weekend for a North American total of $74.7 million.

'Monsters University' Beats 'World War Z' to Win Weekend Box Office

Monsters University topped this weekend’s box office, earning $82 million in its opening weekend!

According to THR, Disney and Pixar’s long-awaited prequel – starring Billy Crystal and John Goodman – also took in an early $54.5 million, giving the film a worldwide debut of $136.5 million.

Coming in at No. 2 was Brad Pitt‘s World War Z, which earned $66 million, making it his biggest domestic opening ever.

Taking the No. 3 spot was Man of Steel, starring Henry Cavill and Amy Adams, which grossed $41.2 million in its second weekend.

Rounding out the top five were Seth Rogen‘s directorial debut This Is the End and Now You See Me, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, and Dave Franco, bringing in $13 million and $7.6 million, respectively.

Meanwhile, Fast & Furious 6 stayed strong with $4.6 million, and Emma Watson‘s The Bling Ring racked in an additional $1.8 million as it expanded to 650 theaters in its second week.
