Get out your kleenex! FLETCHER has just released the powerfully emotional music video for her latest single “Princess“!
“I wrote ‘Princess‘ two years ago when many of the women around me were feeling lost or weak. I wanted to empower them to feel hopeful and not helpless,” the 22-year-old rising singer told TIME. “We are all going through something, but experiencing the highs and the lows makes us who we are. “What if Cinderella had to save herself?” is a message I’ve always needed to hear.”
“The three characters in this video were inspired by a few of my friends in college. One was kicked out of the house for being gay, another left home because their parents didn’t understand their gender identity, and another dear friend almost lost her battle with bulimia,” FLETCHER revealed. “It was very powerful producing “Princess.” I cry most times I perform this song; it’s definitely the most personal record I’ve ever released. I think of my friends who inspired it. I think of all the other girls around the world who are experiencing the very same struggles. Seeing the actors bring those stories as well as their own stories to life was overwhelming.”
“Princess” is featured on FLETCHER‘s debut Finding Fletcher EP, which is available on iTunes and all other digital platforms now!
Sevyn Streeter keeps it simple and sensual in the just released music video for her latest single, “Before I Do,” from her upcoming album Girl Disrupted!
“The concept for the video was birthed from the simplicity of the song. I wanted it to be raw and vulnerable,” the 30-year-old singer told ESSENCE. “It’s all about reflection. Being alone, in your home with your thoughts.”
“I always pull from my life in one way or another. ‘Before I Do’ was no different! The song was brought to me half written, but the story spoke to me so deeply that the rest of the words just flowed from an honest place,” Sevyn added. “It’s going to feel good to sing the new songs I’ve released. Nothing like being in a room with all of my fans singing, dancing and having a good time! It can’t start soon enough for me! This next year for me is really about Girl Disrupted! I really want people to love this album and get to know me better from it.”
