Nathan Fillion: EW's Geek God!

Castle star Nathan Fillion is Entertainment Weekly‘s cover star this week!

Here’s what the 39-year-old Canadian actor, who’s also starred in Serenity, Firefly, and Buffy had to share:

On his character, crime novelist Richard Castle: “He’s got some money and nice tastes. He’s not an a–hole, but he is a bit of a prick.”

On how his fan bases differ: Castle fans – I’ll say 75 percent of the time – are women, and they light up. They go [eyes and mouth open]. They get really excited. Firefly fans will see me, do a double take, stop, nod, and say, ‘Captain’ with an air of ‘I know what you’ve been through. I’ve been there too.’ A guy did it to me in a furniture store the other day. I was walking by, and he saw me, stopped, stood up straight, and said, ‘Captain,’ and I nodded and said, ‘As you were.’ ”

On staying true to his inner geek: “It’s easy to keep the geek fan base stoked by simply remaining true to the inner geek. I just continue to be excited by the things I am excited by. I love sci-fi. I love computer games. I love technology. I like flashlights that are really small but really bright. If it has buttons, batteries, performs some kind of unusual function – yeah, I got it. I want it.”

Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern -- Watch Now!

Nathan Fillion, best known for his work in the sci-fi projects Firefly and Serenity, was never considered for the role of superhero Green Lantern but thanks to YouTube wunderkind Jaron Pitts, the possibility seems all too real.

Check out the below fan-made video of the Green Lantern movie starring Nathan as Hal Jordan. It’s so well-edited!

The actual movie will be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, Goldeneye) and shot at Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia with a $150 million budget. The casting for Green Lantern has not been finalized.

Preview of FOX's New Drama 'Drive'

Here’s a sneak peek at FOX’s new mid-season drama Drive by executive producer Tim Minear (Firefly, Angel, Wonderfalls). To me, it sounds like bizarre-o concept. Check it:

DRIVE is an action-fueled drama following a diverse group of Americans driving for their lives (or the lives of their loved ones) in a sinister, cross-country road race. Some of them have been coerced into joining The Race; others have sought out The Race themselves, hearing rumors of the $32-million prize. Each has a reason to compete. And each must win.

Among the varied racers are a man thrust into The Race in an effort to find his missing wife; a single mother competing under great strain … or possibly something much more strange; a buttoned-down scientist and his rebellious 15-year-old daughter; two brothers in a stolen, pimped-out Caddy that carries secrets of its own; and a gorgeous and mysterious female stowaway who may well hold the key to the secrets of The Race.

There are other competitors as well, but when no one is told whom they’re racing against, or even where the finish line is, anything is possible. With each mile clocked, the drivers get closer, not only to the finish line and a critical, life-changing victory, but to understanding the mystery behind The Race itself.

During the FOX Winter TCA earlier today, FOX president Peter Ligouri said, “We’re very excited about Drive. We have every faith that this is going to be a top show for us.” Drive will premiere in a two-night, three-hour event on Sunday, April 15 @ 8PM and Monday, April 16 @ 8PM.

Tidbits: Nathan Fillion replaced Ivan Sergei (Jack & Jill), who played the lead in the pilot. Amy Acker (Alias, Angel) will play Nathan Fillion‘s missing wife, Kathryn Tully.
