“The song started being written almost a year ago and then she picked it up and wrote her verses on it. Luckily, she liked the demo of it enough to keep me on the song,” Skylar revealed to Billboard. “I knew it was maybe gonna happen, but she released a lot of different singles first. So I didn’t really know when she was gonna drop this song. And then about a week ago I got a call from her team and they wondered if I could come to Scotland and do the song with them.”

Nicki Minaj Under Fire for Nazi Imagery in 'Only' Lyric Video

Nicki Minaj is getting a lot of backlash after featuring Nazi-like imagery in the lyric video for her latest single “Only.”

The Anti-Defamation League released a statement speaking out against the video, in which the 31-year-old rapper plays a military dictator leading an army of soldier wearing red armbands. Read it below (via Billboard):

  • Nicki Minaj‘s new video disturbingly evokes Third Reich propaganda and constitutes a new low for pop culture’s exploitation of Nazi symbolism. The irony should be lost on no one that this video debuted on the 76th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the “night of broken glass” pogrom that signaled the beginning of the Final Solution and the Holocaust.

It is troubling that no one among Minaj’s group of producers, publicists and managers raised a red flag about the use of such imagery before ushering the video into public release.

This video is insensitive to Holocaust survivors and a trivialization of the history of that era. The abuse of Nazi imagery is deeply disturbing and offensive to Jews and all those who can recall the sacrifices Americans and many others had to make as a result of Hitler’s Nazi juggernaut.”
