Nicola Coughlan Claps Back at Twitter Bully Who Called Her The 'Fat Girl From Bridgerton'

Nicola Coughlan has no time for haters in her life.

The Bridgerton actress called out a podcast host after they called her a “fat girl” after seeing her all dressed up for the virtual 2021 Golden Globes ceremony over the weekend.

Podcaster Amanda Richards referenced Nicola as the “fat girl from Bridgerton” while addressing her style and gown she chose to wear.

Nicola promptly called back, saying “I have a name.”

After her reply to Amanda, Nicola brought up an essay she had written for The Guardian over two years ago.

“Can we judge actors for their work and not their bodies,” she wrote, adding, “Also can we please stop asking women about their weight in interviews, especially when it completely irrelevant. I’m seeing a lot of interviews from 10 years ago where people go ‘Oh weren’t the questions so inappropriate!’ unfortunately it’s still happening.”

Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan Recalls 'Stabbing' Co-star Claudia Jessie With a Parasol

Nicola Coughlan might have run into a few wardrobe issues on Bridgerton.

The Penelope Featherington actress opened up in a new interview about how on her first day, she was not feeling walking in the heels provided for her character.

“It was evident pretty quickly on my first day that I couldn’t walk in these heels. So I was walking along during a scene and then all of a sudden with my corset and everything I had no sort of central strength so I completely toppled over and landed on the ground,” Nicola shared about the mishap.

She added that she “got up and was like, ‘That’ll never happen again’, and it happened twice more. I fell over three times.”

That’s not all the things that happened to Nicola on the set – she also stabbed her co-star Claudia Jessie, who plays Eloise, too!

The third time she fell, she was also holding a parasol, which she says is a “deadly weapon.”

“I fell forward really quickly and I stabbed Claudia Jessie in the hand and it drew blood,” she said. “That was my first day, that was Eloise, yes, I stabbed her. But she forgave me we are still friends.”

Recently, Nicola opened up about her hopes for a second season of the popular Netflix show. See what she said here…

She also spoke about that huge twist!

Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan (aka Penelope Featherington) Claps Back at Critics of the Show's Diverse Casting

Nicola Coughlan, who plays the role of Penelope Featherington on Netflix’s new hit series Bridgerton, is speaking out in response to people who have criticized the show’s diverse casting.

The show is set in 1813 during the regency era in London and features people of all races. An explanation is given in the show that when the king fell in love with a Black woman and married her, it gave other people of color the ability to achieve status and ranking in society.

Bridgerton is a massive hit for Netflix and the streamer predicts that more than 63 million households will watch the show in the first 28 days of release.

“You know the way some people were like ‘Diversity in period drama doesn’t work’….63 million households thought it did tho so 💀,” Nicola tweeted.

She added, “Remember people were trying to downvote the show on IMDB cos it was so diverse? You can’t downvote us being Netflix fifth biggest original release ever.”

Make sure to read what Nicola had to say about THAT big spoiler at the end of season one.
