The 36-year-old actor was seen posing with Morena Baccarin while promoting their show Gotham.

American Idol‘s former producer Nigel Lythgoe is speaking out about the show’s cancellation and why he thinks hiring Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj was a mistake.

“It’s the right thing to do,” he told Billboard. “I’m a huge fan of boxing, and it’s like when you’re watching a real heavyweight boxer getting to the end of their career, and all these young whippersnappers are coming up: You’ve got to know when to retire.”

Nigel says that the show was key for Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler‘s careers, but not for the other two.

“Mariah and Nicki was just crazy, and then it really started becoming about the judges and took away from the contestants altogether,” he said. “I think that was a major failing on the part of casting to have those two together. On their own, either one may have been successful.”

Julie Bowen and Eric Stonestreet arrive at their Modern Family co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson‘s wedding to Justin Mikita on Saturday (July 20) in New York City.

The cast mates were joined at the wedding by Rebecca Romijn with her husband Jerry O’Connell, Padma Lakshmi, Cat Deeley, and Nigel Lythgoe.

Jesse and Justin wed in a ceremony in front of two hundred of their friends and family.

“Never been happier. XO Goodnight!” Jesse tweeted that evening, while Justin wrote, “Husband.”

Nigel Lythgoe will no longer be an executive producer on American Idol.

The 63-year-old So You Think You Can Dance judge confirmed his firing via Twitter.

“just had 10 days in the Bahamas, rain everyday. I get back to the States and get fired,” Nigel tweeted. “Sad! Monday we choose our top 20. I’ll smile again.”

“Yes, don’t worry I’m on #SYTYCD. FOX still loves me. It’s not a personal thing they just feel IDOL needs new leadership after 12 Seasons,” he added.

This year’s American Idol‘s finale lost seven million viewers compared to 2012. It is likely they are looking to revamp the show. Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj, and Mariah Carey have all confirmed they won’t be back next season.

Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey take the stage at the 2013 Winter TCA Tour panel for American Idol held at the Langham Hotel on Tuesday (January 8) in Pasadena, Calif.

The two new American Idol judges were joined on stage by fellow newcomer Keith Urban, as well as Randy Jackson, Ryan Seacrest, and producer Nigel Lythgoe.

Mariah recently spoke with Barbara Walters about the fight she had with Nicki.

“Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at somebody, you know, that’s just – it’s not appropriate,” Mariah said. “I’ve got two babies; I’m not going to take any chances. Yeah, I did hire more security. I just felt it was the appropriate thing to do.”

Lady Gaga rocks a thigh high slit in her dress at the 39th International Emmy Awards held at the Mercury Ballroom on Monday (November 21) in NYC.

The 25-year-old entertainer presented Nigel Lythgoe, American Idol executive producer, with the Founders Award.

Gaga shocked the crowd when she made the unannounced appearance at the award show, and called Nigel her “favorite executive in the business,” according to Reuters.

During his speech, Nigel said that Gaga, “certainly is, for my money, the most creatively talented woman in show business right now.”
