Rafael Nadal celebrates a point with a fist pump during his 2013 US Open men’s singles final match at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Monday (September 9) in New York City.
The 27-year-old Spanish tennis player defeated the number one player in the world Novak Djokovic in four sets 2-6 6-3 4-6 1-6.
The win gave Rafael his second championship at the U.S. Open, which he won in 2010, where he also competed with Novak in the final. Congrats Rafael!
“It’s always the biggest challenge that you can have in our sport now,” Novak recently shared before the match about Rafael. “I mean, he’s the ultimate competitor out there. He’s fighting for every ball and he’s playing probably the best tennis that he ever played on hard courts.”
